Google Nexus 5

Nice. You're gonna love it.

Yes ... your prediction was 100% correct!!

I love everything about this phone. In brief terms - this is my setup:
KitKat 4.4.2
Franco kernel (with FKU)
Nova Launcher (Paid version)
Gravity Box (Xposed Framework)
Greenify (Xposed Framework)
AppOpsXposed (Xposed Framework)
LightFlow
Missed It
Not really worth it mentioning other apps as these are the ones altering stock experience.....

What do you use AppOps for? Honestly, I can't think of a reason to use it, but maybe I am not looking at it enough.

I am not using it. I have however installed it and I will be using it later after I have had a look at permissions for apps and understand it better. I see no reason why Facebook should be able to send SMS's from my phone and with AppOps, I can prevent them from doing it. It is a security feature that slipped through in KK 4.3 and removed immediately in KK 4.4. I like having better control over what apps are allowed to access on my phone. It is more secure that way.

As far as I know Facebook uses the permission to receive SMS's to verify your number.

However, once it did that and you can block the permission I agree it would be worthwhile.

Fair enough. Just never seen the need to selectively change permissions of the apps that I install, I suppose.

Finally decided to get the N5, arrived this morning ... so far so good.. I have rooted it, will play around with the stock Rom for a bit then I'll go for something else like Paranoid or Omni ...

Must say, I am really happy with stock rooted + Gravitybox. PA are going to have to do something really special to get me to flash. I don't even miss the HALO anymore...

Awesome :)

Halo got irritating for me tbh, I have been running OmniRom on my N4 the last few weeks. But hell, why rom if you can modify what you want anyway!

I might not even use it extensively, I might even uninstall it, but I want the flexibility to "protect" my privacy should I want to deny an app certain permissions. A mate of mine knows quite a lot about this - I will spend a day with him

Congrats! But I agree with Maverick Jester - No need for custom roms once you use Gravity Box. Stock is rock solid and Gravity box customizes it like modified roms does

Post a couple of screenshots of your home screens / lock screen - your setup sounds interesting.
I didn't forget about you - I took a while to upload the pics (bad line)

Homescreen
Open area below weather is a notification area for sms's, phone calls, tapatalk, etc. (Missed It)
On the right is my battery indicator (Minimalistic)
No statusbar with notifications, time, battery status, signal, etc. It is hidden, but pops up when I am in apps (Nova/Gravity Box)
Customised the navigation bar - added settings (Gravity Box)
Customised the navigation bar - added quick app menu which takes 8 app shortcuts (Gravity Box)
Long pressing the "Home button" pops up the power menu (obviously you can use the power button, but I like this feature) (Gravity Box)
Long pressing the "Recents button" makes the phone sleep (Gravity Box)
Long Press back button kills app (Nova or Gravity Box)

Notification drawer
Slide down middel and left sides to open the notifications drawer (Gravity Box)

Quicksettings drawer
Slide down the right side of the screen opens the quick settings drawer (Gravity Box)
Plenty of tiles to select from plus most of the are customisable (Gravity Box)

Post 2

Post a couple of screenshots of your home screens / lock screen - your setup sounds interesting.

Recents
Just a screenshot with a button to remove all recents at once (Gravity Box)

AppOps
Integrated into the stock settings menu (AppOpsX)

App Drawer
Grouped all my apps into folders (Nova)

LightFlow works very well to manipulate the led notification light (colour and pulsing) for almost any circumstance or notification. (Thanks Maverick Jester for the tips)

I'm still on r30 and never had a problem with the back button (that I've noticed).

Going to flash r32 later anyway ;)

The only thing else that I can think of is that something I've tweaked in the FKU may have caused it (highly possible, but my settings are exactly the same as they were under r23 and I never had the issue then).
