Google Nexus 5

That red is amazingly striking. Just wow. Makes me feel like I need to change colours..

Red is pretty cool. Would probably also get it if I were to buy a phone now.

Doesn't really fit my wardrobe though.... B-)

Anyone know how long the current delivery time for the N5 in Australia is? Got family going there next week, I see the red one is available now.

Anyone know a free Australia vpn I can view the online ordering process with?

Okay, looks like the red is the only 32GB with immediate shipping in Australia.
I don't want a red one, what are my chances of trading a new red for a new black locally?

Although I would love to get my hands on one of these, I have decided not to support a company that doesn't support me. Google must be aware of the demand for these phones in SA. Not making it available here, whatever the reason, is a mistake.

There is a single LG repair centre in CT/WC, none in Durban/KZN, I didn't bother checking GP, I am sure there's some there.
I would prefer they get their act together to be able to properly support the product before they launched, rather than launching locally and leaving customers high and dry for decent support.
MS did the same thing for the first gen Xbox.

Didn't know there's a repair centre. So if I had an incident with my Nexus it would be able to be fixed? (although probably expensive)

Nope. The Nexus 5 is not officially sold in South Africa, so you need to ship it back to the States (and to Google) for a repair / replacement.

No, it's just that Google would need to use existing infrastructure (rather than staying from scratch) to support an official local product, and LG service centres for mobile devices is very scarce right now. Any company worth its salt would make sure their products are properly supported.

My boet will order me one when he's in Sydney next week, he's there for a couple weeks. He's got an Australian credit card. I've told him 32GB version, black or red, whatever is listed as quickest delivery time. Whites are currently out of stock. If I get the black I'll keep it, if it's a red I'll sell it.

Tempted to ask if you're interested in a swap (for the red), but I don't think that you'd be too keen on a white version...

Hehe, I'll see what he comes back with, he returns on 4th March so it's a little too soon to start counting eggs ;)

Increase battery life + faster loading application time by doing the following:

1) Go to settings and scroll down to "about phone"

2) Scroll down to "build number" and click multiple times on it and it will say you have become a developer

3) go back to settings and click on "developer options" and select "Select runtime" from "Dalvik" to "ART"

Your phone will restart an update apps and will start as normal when it is finished. If you want to go back to the default nexus 5 setting, just repeat above and select "Dalvik".

Read about Dalvik vs ART on the internet before you do it. I am not responsible for anything that happens.

Too much doesn't work on ART for me to justify the virtually no difference I noticed in performance. Xposed and Gravity Box is one.
