Google Nexus 5

But not enough to change the model and incentivise off-contract purchases. This is what Google wanted, and could never achieve. The iPhone dominates the US market because of the discounted contract prices. Likewise, the Samsung Galaxy range dominates Android sales globally for the very same reason.

Off-contract is an ideal situation- but when carriers make it less worthwhile and more costly on average to dump their contracts, people will go back to them because it's the cheapest way to get a phone while getting better value adds than prepaid.

I loved the cheap Nexus model, because I benefited from it. But this may benefit me more in the long term, by hopefully bringing the device in with adequate support on a local front.

Yeah sure, I agree. Contracts work for people, because it's only a small monthly amount compared to one lump of cash, even though it will work out more in contract (depending on your usage of the contract of course).

It'll be great if it comes to SA on contract, being dominated by Samsung, would be nice to if more people could experience the SUPERIOR phone :D

But I doubt if it will come to the UAE on contract, so I'm stuck buying it cash. Still happy though that I went for the OPO after seeing this price. Although I must say I love the design of the N6 :)

How much do they charge for the N5 cash in Dubai? I see it here in Saudi for R4,130 cash (1399 Riyal).

Depending on how things pan out, if the Nexus 6 doesn't appear on contract here, I may just return to the N5 with Android L.

I wasn't impressed with the case from Orange, it just says LG at the back. Was hoping for the Nexus logo case...

The case its self is pretty good though, good luck trying to get your phone out of it :)

Thanks for all the responses guys. I have placed an order for the white one on Orange. I actually wanted a black or a clear one but it seems they only stock the white. Now I wait.

Hi guys

I'm a bit disappointed that the nexus 6 is a phablet, it's too big for me. Is it worth getting the nexus 5 with android 5 and wait for a possible updated phone later on or should I keep my S3 for now?

To the guys running the Android L preview on their Nexus 5, does it fix the camera issues?

Many are doing this same thing, keeping their N5 or getting it now at reduced prices, should be even less once the N6 is out too...

N5 camera honestly does it well enough for me, if I want better I'd have a camera on me so if thats going to affect your choice too then might want to go another route. Personally cannot comment on the issues and I guess we can make a final choice once the final Lollipop release is out

I am sure the camera quality is good enough, especially comparing it to my S3. My big concern is the battery drain problem reported for the N5. With CM11 running on my S3, I get 1.5 to 2 days out of a charge and I have gotten used to it. Even 1 day is still ok, but less than a full day is starting to become a problem.

What camera issues?

If I can recall correct battery drain from the camera was fixed back when google updated the Camera APK. Battery is usage Dependant but with Lollipops promised battery performance increase we shall see how well it fares off. Right now I use greenify on a few apps and getting a full day ... I'm a heavy user on my phone to add

Imo, overhyped. I don't have any issues with the camera - some of those issues has never even happened to me. But like @Michaelmw, if I want to take quality apps, I would take a proper camera with me. How often do you use your camera?

I use my phone camera mainly at work when taking pictures of production issues in our factory.

I will just wait until Orange store advertises the N6 and hope that the price for the N5 comes down a bit more before buying.

I still get the camera bug (mm-qcamera-daemon) from time to time when using Snapchat etc. Eagerly awaiting Lollipop.
