Google Operating System planned

I still want a netdrive 1st. :(

will be interesting to see if they compete with ubuntu.. reminds me of the dum terminals.. maybe this will be cool for internet cafe's

Problem is... I need this now. Using Puppy Linux and Sugar in the meanwhile. Ubuntu also has a nice netbook edition. Problem is, stupid users still manage to break those installations. I need a rock solid OS that can stand the fiddling of moronic users.

This will be fantastic. The free OS market is opening up. I imagine how this will confuse some :D

“The user interface is minimal to stay out of your way, and most of the user experience takes place on the web. And as we did for the Google Chrome browser, we are going back to the basics and completely redesigning the underlying security architecture of the OS so that users don't have to deal with viruses, malware and security updates. It should just work,” Google said.

Sounds familiar

Sounds familiar

It does, but luckily, up and till now, Google's projects do just work (most of them)

Gmail, to my mind is the perfect example of something that just works. It's weird how, after what seems like 5 years or more, it's still in beta.

Chrome on the other hand hasn't been perfect. I work for a software development company and projects that worked fine in IE, FF, Opera and even Safari did not work out of the box with Chrome. It's simplicity is overshadowed by it's incompatibility with existing web applications.

EDIT : And Gmail's SPAM filter is a thing of beauty!

Speak for yourself... Chrome rocks for me.

Wow. Lots of Netbook OSs coming out now. Moblin still looks like one of the most promising for me though: www.moblin.org . It's backed by Intel - only prob with that is that we won't see an ARM version :D

Funny you should mention that because it came out of beta yesterday lol

If it can run win32 binaries natively it will be a winner

you still believe this carp..

win32 sucks, it's proprietary, if Windows died it's source will go with it, open source is eternal and can be improved without restrictions.
