Google Pixel 4a

He asked for someone other than Amazon,
It's just another option

The only think I don't like about it is the fact that so many features are not available outside SA, but that applies to all Pixels.

I am interested to know what features are not available?

Call screening to name one

Interesting to know, I am seriously contemplating getting the pixel 5, I have been wanting a pixel for long a time now, want to transition away from iPhone, was considering the 4a but might as well just wait little longer and get the 5 one time.

Good idea to wait and see what the 5 offers first. That said, I think people will see google shy away from flagships, and wouldn’t be surprised if the 5 is a value offering.

5G is so overrated and not worth the price. Maybe in 5 years it will be worthwhile.

My Initial impressions after using the Pixel 4a for the last 10 days:
I really love the size; it feels good in the hand and it really is comfortable to use. Everything is reachable, rather than having to stretch to the other side of the screen, hence for me the size really hits the sweet spot.
Buttons are quite clickey, which is quite satisfying to use for some strange reason. The speakers are surprisingly good and frankly better than I had expected.

The build quality is really good, the plastic body is soft and comfortable and really brings back memories of my favourite phone ever; the Nexus 5.
A great OLED screen with little to no bezels and I have no problems with using my phone in bright sunny days.
Performance wise the phone has been great, one of the biggest reasons I prefer pixel phones is the performance, there hasn't been any slow down, stutter or lag.

The fingerprint sensor is super fast, however one thing I have noticed is that the fingerprint reader is a little shallow, I sometimes swipe my finger across trying to find it. I am using the phone naked currently and I think having a case will fix this.
The camera is very impressive and is unbelievable in night mode. My wife compared photos to photos from her S20 plus and she couldn't believe the photos from the 4a were much better.

The battery is really good, got around 5 hours and 34 min screen on time with mixed use [50% LTE and 50% wifi] on my first day of use, with about 10% battery left. I think it's important to state that I don't turn anything off on my phone. My location is on, wifi is on, bluetooth is on [connects to car when driving], display is on adaptive etc.
On average I have been getting around 6 hours screen on time per day, however when my mobile signal is non existent/terrible due to load shedding i get around 4/5 hours SOT.

Overall I would say the Pixel 4a pretty much has everything I need in a phone and is really amazing value considering it cost R7400 delivered to my door [Amazon incl. shipping and customs].
It really is a well rounded phone, frankly make me question why I had spent much more on phones in the past.

How did you manage to get it for that low a price?

And you would have gotten the Android 11 upgrade this morning, too?

How did you manage to get it for that low a price?

When I ordered it from Amazon on 5th the price was $440
The breakdown was:
Phone - $349
Amazon Global Shipping $25
Customs $66

I think if you order it from Amazon today it is $470, which quite frankly is still worth it.

And you would have gotten the Android 11 upgrade this morning, too?

I did get the notification to upgrade in the morning, but haven't done it yet. Will probably do it after work today.

Amazon just debited my account today, phone expected next week. Looking forward.

For those who already have the phone. How is it so far?

I am looking at importing one myself. R8900 for the phone, 2 covers and 4 pack screen protectors. Also includes shipping and import duties.
