Google Play voucher on Afrihost

Again a bump, seeing as Afrihost does not really care about this issue. So just for info for anyone who Google this someday and wondering why you cannot redeem Google Play codes (bought in South Africa) on Afrihost's network
Hello.
We have never received feedback from Google, I will ask @AfriNatic to send in a new escalation for me.

Afrihost is often picked up as a data center/hosting provider, and if there's VPN/proxy/bot blocking, this could lead to Afrihost users being blocked. I know Google pick up Afrihost as a data center on Google Play and sometimes block gift card redemptions because of it. I'd reach out to the site owner and just ask them.

Resurrecting a thread here, but I had the same issue. I managed to resolve it by contacting Google Support via the Play Store and lodging a request. The voucher then seemed to be processed on their side, as my account was suddenly credited.

Thanks for this. Will try and remember for future use case or anyone on Afrihost/Airmobile. Already used mine using my brother's ISP. But thanks for keeping this alive for the internet historians. Will be interesting to see how long this takes to get fixed :D

If only there was a reputable Tech website with some connections to maybe have a look into this  .....

The lack of feedback from @AfriFella @Afrigirl @AfriGuy @AfriNatic goes to show the state of not just Afrihost but ALL ISP in SA. No feedback is their way of hoping the client forgets about his problem

They all hire "support staff" that just read a list of pre-populated responses and have 0 actual knowledge of anything.

Agree. I highly doubt they will do anything about it. Probably not a lot of people came across this, so keeping quiet is the best answer from Afrihost

Well it's a Google issue they need to fix.....
Google Play gift codes can only be redeemed in South Africa. However, I see you are using Afrihost as an ISP which Google sometimes picks up as a VPN/proxy.

Hi.

Unfortunately, Google did not provide any feedback on this matter.

But did you follow up or is it just this. Sorry they didnt get back to us, so we will keep taking our clients money and do nothing about the issue

I have followed up and recreated the clients issue on my end so it can be used as an example.

This has been an ongoing issue for literally years now. We've escalated this numerous times with Google, but unfortunately they continue to flag Afrihost as a proxy/VPN. I think it's a legacy issue with one of their providers who flagged Afrihost as a data center and never updated.

Just a warning: using a VPN to get around this could result in the code being security locked and is a major mission to try get unlocked. Rather use a valid local mobile network or another fibre operator if you encounter the error.
Good on you to tell the people this. I am a long customer and have used eGifts24 for very long time. They are 100% correct the code can get locked I had this problem a year ago. Thankfully after explaining to Google what happened they did redeem my code BUT it took a very long time. But that said others may not be so lucky. Also happy to see eGifts24 on here.:thumbsup:

Have had the issue with afrihost numerous times. Always in the past I was able to redeem the code when on mobile data. However I got a 300 gift voucher the other day that I was able to redeem but it won't let me use the voucher now to pay for an app. Each time I try regardless of if its on wifi or mobile data it just keeps saying this voucher can only be used in South Africa. Very frustrating.

Is that on Afrihost for WiFi and mobile data, or are you using a different network for mobile data?

On both Afrihost (via Vuma) and MTN Mobile data. Problem is not related to the internet connection I believe, just google.

Hey all,

I had the same issue.

Fix: turn off WiFi and use mobile data to load voucher.

Let me know if it works

Who is your mobile service provider? Mine's Afrihost and it didn't work in the past.
