Google RCS?

Wondering if you also have had some issues with Google RCS lately?

We have noticed that some contacts that communicate by rcs have suddenly changed to "text messages" confirming that no changes have been done on their phone settings etc.
We do not know of any changes by Google at this stage. @Ockie

Experiencing the very same since Thursday last week.
 
I very seldom use RCS. Most of my messaging is done on Telegram. I created a new message now to someone I know is on RCS and it says "RCS Message in the text box.

Does that for me too, but the message never gets sent.

Did you try sending the message ?
Or could you try sending your contact a test message perhaps and see if it gets sent ?
 
Wondering if Google is in the process of effecting some changes in the background?
 
It's Ok. I found what it is. I see I am being forced by Google to use their messaging app on my phone. There is no native SMS app on my phone I see.
 
@Ockie - The RCS function seems have issues by reverting to "Text Message" a possible cause (a) Phone number fails Google Acc verification (b) Networks like Vodacom etc. servers have issues with RCS.
We are uncertain of the cause of the issues at this stage. 😃

Ja so my RCS messages wont send. Tried forwarding a service provider message that he needed and it shows RCS, but when you press send it just stays on the little clock. No sent tick mark at all. Dissapointing.

I tried using a VPN app and connected to different servers in the UK, Netherlands, and Japan.
When connected to the VPN, RCS messages get sent / received immediately.

The moment I disconnect from the VPN, RCS messages fail to be sent/received.


* I'm using a Vodacom sim for data

Ockie could you perhaps try this when you're at home; assuming your home internet connection is fibre based and your ISP is not Vodacom.

1) Disable mobile data on your phone
2) Connect your phone to your home wifi router
3) Try sending an RCS message and see if it gets sent
 
@jannievanzyl @Ockie A vodacom SR was registered in regards to this issue. It would appear from OP posting that Vodacom has issues to rectify.

Yes, they do get income by amount of Data used. RCS is purely data driven like WhatsUp etc.
