Google shutting down Google+

Google has announced that it is shutting down Google+, its social network service.

The announcement comes after the disclosure of a massive data leak by Google today, thanks to a bug in the Google+ API which affected up to 500,000 users.

The www used to be such a nice place. Somewhere here there is an article that fbook wants to come into your home.

This is a good idea......

Was a failure, but it was a great marketing tool.

Used it once or twice quite a long time ago. For a supposedly brainy workforce like those at Google, Google+ was a complete shocker in multiple ways.

These data leaks are becoming far too frequent.

Weird how it hits the giants of the internet....

Facebook..now Google...:confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused:
The larger the footprint, the more lucrative target and worthwhile exploiting. With them the bad actor can do much more than say, a MyGames login.

Google goes through so many flops, anyone remember Google Video? or Google Wave?
Google+ isn't even the first social media platform they failed, Google Buzz.

On this forum (or used to be): Google Site search.
Among a few other things I can mention off the top of my head.

The good thing is that Google usually improves/launches products that are similar with lessons learnt later.

Intel does similar. If you can get 1 success in 99 failures, it could turn out worth it.

Google Image search has gone for a loop with their new algorithms etc. Bing does a better job currently.

Make no mistake, they have some marvelous products, but screw the pooch from time to time.

Meh just an excuse. Was to cut it sooner or later. Never really gained traction.

Google was never really interested in developing G+. It's still in almost the same state as launch minus a few things that made it unique like ripples. Was just a way for them to get back marketing share from fb. I'm still waiting for the first real social network that let users decide how to use it.

How will this affect Youtube since your profile is also your G+ page profile?

Honestly Google should just stop coming up with new social media ideas.
Why ? If they do it right, it can be a cash cow, their biggest issue, is trying to integrate every thing. If they were to do a stand alone service perhaps it will be better received. If they were to do a more traditional approach like facebook, they could create a viable alternative to facebook, for one most people hate facebook on here.

There are some communities, like it professionals, retro computers etc that was fun to be part of.

Most of these communities do not want to migrate to facebook, but plans and decisions are being made.

Well Google isn't innocent than Facebook

I don't think it will have any effect at all. I've noticed for a while now that you can't tag other users in YouTube comments using the + sign, which leads me to believe they have "separated" the profiles (disconnected the two services from each other) if that makes sense.
