Google shutting down Google+

It's just going to be a re-brand and a taking down the webpage for public access. Google+ is integral to the identity API. Unless they somehow rip that out, but it's just easier to rebrand and remove the public webpage.

Google+? Yeah, I seem to remember seeing it sometime and wondered what it was. Well whatever it was supposed to be, I'll sure miss it with all my heart.

I don't think it will have any effect at all. I've noticed for a while now that you can't tag other users in YouTube comments using the + sign, which leads me to believe they have "separated" the profiles (disconnected the two services from each other) if that makes sense.
When I created one I struggled finding out that your profile is actually a google+ page under your account. I couldn't find the display name in Youtube and still can't unless it's well hidden. The display name of the channel is the name of the google+ page. Most people simply use their google account to comment instead of a channel. I wonder how separate the two are now.

Google was never really interested in developing G+. It's still in almost the same state as launch minus a few things that made it unique like ripples. Was just a way for them to get back marketing share from fb. I'm still waiting for the first real social network that let users decide how to use it.

True, the Google Exec's were never really interested once they realised that the Facebook juggernaut was still going to steamroll over them. However, from what I saw of the Google+ team themselves, they were really passionate and did try to increase their market share.

Think along the lines of Windows vs. OS/2; one had better tech, whilst the other was already strongly embedded in the public consciousness...

Whenever I bought a new smartphone, Google+ was one of the 1st bit of bloatware I'd either disable or force-remove. It was a white elephant anyway & why Google stuck with it for so long I have no idea.
But that was when unlocking Huawei's bootloader was still possible & rooting was easy. I'm yet to find a free solution that doesn't involve using PayPal & DC-Unlocker.
Btw, has anyone found a way to obtain Huawei bootloader unlock codes? Huawei refuses to provide them. If Huawei & DC-Unlocker can find it, then there must certainly be a workaround.
Any ex Huawei employees on this forum? Your input on this matter could be invaluable.
Back to the topic.
Since rooting on new Huawei devices is almost impossible, removing manufacturers bloatware is no longer a simple process.
So thank you Google for removing your bloatware for us, Huawei customers, who no longer can do it ourselves.

Have spent the last 2 hours scrubbing everything google related from my machine and my phone. My phone is now crying and buggy but I dfaf.

Tried to contact them by email earlier with regards to a separate issue on my mobile phone and after realizing you actually cannot contact google at all, I guess I just thought **** you and your products. They've simply become another dictatorship hiding behind their beanbag chairs and token office foosball machines; just another scammy, shady Yahoo monolith.

What planet have you been on? You haven't been able to talk to a human being at Google in YEARS!!

Yeah because they are probably all Chinese. Does google actually exist or is it simply a dolled up office in some photographic studio? Who is really behind "google" and what company is it really?

I think there is something else going on.

this seems to be true for a good deal of tech companies. or they really hide that information deep.

Google, like FB is run by a computer. Google 'help' is run by volunteers of users, not employees. FB has no human interface at all. All reports / complaints etc for both companies go through their algorithms, which means that you can never get issues that aren't covered by their programming resolved. It is as annoying as all hell.

Absent interns?

There is no direct communication at all, through any avenue, with an actual human being. Every time you try to log a query, ask for help, submit a complaint, you are talking to a machine.

Yeah, that's been like that for at least ten years. Only press have a direct connection to support, with some Google Pixel allowing telephonic support after logging a call-back feature. There is instant messaging support as well though, not sure if that actually goes to a human though. You also get direct support if using Google's Enterprise products.

I've never used any of those products though, and have never had a need to contact Google, so don't have a problem with it.

Been that way since companies started going all digital. For some reason they think we don't live in the real world any more. Facebook is even worse with generic robot responses even in their official help channels. If your problem isn't on their list then it doesn't exist for them. Now see this from the pov of someone that would rather go and talk to people in person than pick up the phone.

I've had Facebook human communication for stuff? Try and report something, it waits to get flagged, done by a human in most cases. It's not great, but it is human.

Use Gsuite or buy a Pixel phone if you want support. Can't complain about lack of support when you're using something for free.
