Google starts rolling out passkey support for Gmail.com accounts

Problem with passkeys is that they aren't so easy to backup and there's no way to back one up in memory so in some instances they are less secure. I don't see the idea of them catching on until they can be linked to the person and the computer can ascertain you're both alive and not under duress.

It’s braindead simple on Apple….simply syncs to your iCloud Keychain and works on all devices.

Nothing to backup.

It’s about bloody time been waiting almost a year for Google to wake up like everyone else and finally the pain and suffering goes away.

No longer need to use my Yubikey.

Wait I've been logging in like this for my Google account for years.

How is this any different to Google prompt login?

It requires you accept a login on a the device you choose as the prompt device.

Is the difference here that it's meant to be a "more secure" version of Google prompt by having keys on the device instead of a simpler "call home" to the prompt device?

becuse Apple good, Android Baaaaad...
Yeah the moment they started not just being overpriced but deciding what you are allowed to do including uninstalling apps for you whether you like it or not..... I started giving them a haaaaard pass.

I am not a "one of us one of us one of us" guy.

The difference is no more passwords whatsoever, so if you have only one device and something happens to it you have to literally recreate a new account and loose access to everything linked to the old one.

This is not only stupid but going to be a MASSIVE problem for pensioners.

Honestly, never knew much about Apple until I got given one for Mahala, as a work phone, and started trying to use it,
biggest load of garbage I've ever seen, who pays money for this Trash I will never understand.

Alright so it's a worse version of Google prompt?

Because if you don't have your device your then login with a password as fallback.

Surely that's a better system.

Have a device for logging in easily but then have a long difficult password for emergencies.

Makes me think I shouldn't bother with this passkey.

Thats the thing, they want to force you to use the passkey and discontinue passwords.
