Google sued over wrong directions by pedestrian

I doubt she'll win. A quick read through the Google Maps/Earth ToS should make it clear that Google is not responsible for your lack of judgement.

Didn't stop that woman from suing Macdonalds and winning when she burnt herself with a cup of coffee. You would think that if you ordered coffee it would hot. She still won.

one of the problems with such cases is that only the lower court judgements are reported. often when they are overturned by the higher courts no one hears about that.

Maybe so, but if she did it was because of a technicality like it not being in writing that the coffee was hot. Common sense doesn't apply in an American court of law. Google ToS is in writing and you have to accept it. Whether you read it or not doesn't matter, you accepted it and that means that they have it in writing which gives them a case-winning argument.

Gold digger, that's all, but in the remote chance that this may be true, how did she get out of the padded cell?????

The Los Angeles County resident claims the directions led her to walk through Park City on a road without sidewalks that she says isn't safe for pedestrians

Hmm, but doesn't Google maps actually navigate for Vehicles and not programmed for different routes for pedestrians?

Well now, contracts are most often in writing and I've seen a number overturned with consumers simply because the terms were overly prejudicial and that this was not specifically highlighted to the consumer at inception... love the national credit act and the upcoming consumer protection act.

D

she should be sued for wasting everybody's time.
hopefully she takes a wrong turn on the way to the courthouse...

Shows you what a joke the law has become. There was a joke about TV license inspectors were someone got x amount of years for not paying a tv license while some murderer got far less. The joke was next time a license inspector shows up at your door, kill him. The penalty for murder seemed to be less than for not having a tv license. Criminals now have more rights under the law than ordinary citizens & consumers can sue the crap out of legitimate business owners for something that is in effect their own fault. Recently shop owners in the UK were warned not to clear their pavements of snow & ice. If someone falls on ice that gathered during the night it's their problem, however once you've cleaned the show/ice in front of your shop it becomes your liability is someone gets injured.

This woman was stupid but found a way to make her stupidity someone elses fault. Way to go humanity!

Serves GOOGLE right. Google wants to take photos of people in their gardens and gather Wifi network SS names - and all to make money selling ads - they should be responsible too. You can't have your cake and eat it.
