Google unveils WhatsApp competitor

So basically a Telegram bot that is connected to Google. I bet that fancy AI cannot typeset Maths equations...

Until it has self destructing messages, this won't really replace Telegram for me.

The incognito mode is concerning though, seems you have to turn that on for encryption and for them not to collect data from you.
Would have thought it should always be in that mode by default.

Your data will be encrypted by default, but not p2p. So from your phone to their server, then from their server encrypted again to the destination device. With incognito it will be encrypted p2p from what I understand. Very similar to how Telegram does it with their secret chats.

So google collects everything you say unless you enable encryption.... hmmmm
Sounds appealing

Hangouts doesn't have all the Google Assistant features.
That's the problem with Google. Why not add the functionality to Hangouts? Why do something new? People spend a lot of effort implementing a new messaging system and then it gets deprecated a few years later. It's a far bigger challenge maintaining and enhancing existing systems than doing all the glam work on something new. This approach doesn't work for business, and sooner or later it starts p'ing off users.

The message is: we're not gonna protect your investment in our past solutions. Who knows, in a year or two or three we'll abandon Allo and do something else.

Who would want all of their communications to be canned responses? Why communicate at all? Just let the frikken bots have a conversation.

If all your friends can do is tap on the bot auto responses instead of interaction with you like a human being, then you should be reevaluating your friendships. :p

Ever used Google Search or Gmail? They do it all already. Who cares anyway. Them trawling through my mail and messages and using it for suggestions and notifications on Google Now is awesome.

Sure I agree and yes it is but I don't post my balls on Google Search or Gmail...

What has the world come to when no platform is conducive to ball sending :(
