Do you use Gmail? The Google Toolbar?

Did you know that with Google Web History you can go back and view EVERY single site you visited and every search you ever made?

(hehe... yeah, don't let your wife or boss find this!!! :eek: )

Interesting.

This will be a great help in finding something you googled for long ago, but forgot what search terms you've used.
 
So if you don't have gmail or the google toolbar it won't store your history?

Yes, you have to be signed in for it to remember. Not sure if you have to have the toolbar installed or not. But I can see gaps in the calendar where I was not signed in.
 
Sorry, Google is trying to be the biggest repository of personal information.

Big Brother that does no evil until asked to hand over details???

I do not like it.

Personally I have done very well operating under the radar for decades. (dodging MP's for call up, dodging **** on campus, dodging Sars by paying what I need, dodging my wife when looking at , dare I say it porn (actually she bust me, very IT literate, just lucky she wants to see it)etc

Why create a bread crumb trail that leads to yourself???

Seems daft.

Correct me if I am wrong, but this big brother thing was passed into law here recently???

ISP's have to keep records of all mails for something like three years as per ANC/Gov???

personally in this day and age of the net, I prefer to be anonymous, and just get about my business of supporting my family.

Dunno how you feel???
 
I don't like the google web history either (as with facebook) They just accumulate far to much personal info and I don't like that. Another thing about google is that they are in the process of dominating the world. Just check how many websites have got adsense, then there's google desktop. Its handy but you are actually handing over all of your pesonal info including bank statements & loveletters or whatever you've got on your local disks. Yes its against their privacy policy but can you really trust them...

I normally love all the Google apps, but I never installed the Google Desktop! Would have loved it for the widgets, but I found it was transferring a huge amount of data and wasting my cap, and also slowing down my system with it's search features. My philosophy on search is "put it where you can find it". If you wanna check what I mean install a network monitor and see how much data Google desktop is chewing.

I personally don't mind Google keeping tabs on my searches.Have I searched for porn on Google?Yes.Am I scared that they going to personally come and show that to the Mrs?No?Isn't this whole "Big Brother" concept just a little bit out there?
 
You can also delete your search history if you're scared that the Mrs will be snooping around... :D

But it is really nice to have, especially if you found something you were looking for, and a few days later you can't remember where you've found it - a simple visit to your history'll help you :)

It has helped me find stuff I really badly wanted a few times now... in fact, I don't really bother much with a favorites folder now. I can just search in my web history.
 
lol... I just noticed that it is no longer tracking the StumbleUpon websites that I visit. What's up with that? How did it get changed?

I signed in but there's nothing there, not sure if its because I don't use the toolbar or because I deactivated it, can't remember if I did.

I use Google Notebook a lot though, very useful with the FF extension.
 
it's for reasons like this I ensure I am never always logged on into any google service. yet almost every other website I am auto logged in and leave my computer at home unlocked.

This of course excludes any site which might have any of my banking details.
