Trace complete.

Telkom MyBB Rep (Charl) reported it already and confirmed that the DSLAM I connect to suffers from congestion and that he asked for a bandwith increase.

Hi. Have you had any response about this issue?

Since my line was upgraded from 2Mb to 4Mb in November 2013. It has been really crappy.
Fastest I've had was about 3.4Mb/s, but mostly it's under 2Mb.

Pm me your email addy. I have an email address of the most capable tech in gordons bay. Very helpful. He will sort you out.

My telkom adsl line just died on me 30 min ago and is still down. Red light on router for both my afrihost and telkom account. Cell C on my mobile also down. Posting this from my afrihost mtn sim.

And can confirm after telkom started upgrades last year service really deteriorated badly here on gordonsbay.

Zandberg: is your ADSL line up but the ISP (PPPoE) connection down - like I currently have at stellenbosch since 22:05 tonight...

I'm posting this via my cell

Update:
The issue got resolved by 23:21
... and now my speed are better than ever:

Mine clocked 3.5mb/s when it eventually came back on.
So it CAN be fast, if there are only two people online.

We'll have to see what it's like at peak time tonight.

Eish - now the speed is back to the poor sub 2Mbps again - but at least its more than 1Mbps I suppose:

I reckon I should just contact @TelkomZA again and complain about the congestion that they cannot see on their system, because this is clearly congestion or a faulty core router.

I've had no problems on a 10mb line

The problem in gordons bay are the dslams, they congested. They threw me last year on a different one and I haven't seem congestion since. Touch wood

If I call them, what do I ask for them do do that?

You're going to need a techy to do it. Log a fault whine you have issues, let the techy come out, tell him you want to be transferred to the IMAX dslam.

We're having a lot of reliability problems in Gordons Bay the past month or so, anyone else having problems? (Prefix 021 856). Line goes down at least once a week now, and seems to be getting worse, as now even when it's 'up' it seems to disconnect several times a day. About two months ago our sync speeds also dropped from ~8Mbps to 4Mbps (we used to get ~11 about a year or two back :/ ... so it's just been going steadily downhill). Is this just us or is there a general problem? Do I need to get put on a different DSLAM? How to have that done?

I've only had problems the last two weeks. Not sure if it's just a coincidence that it started just after moving my line over to Afrihost

Hey guys, my ADSL was down this past Friday from about 19h00 till Saturday 17h00.Im on an axxess managed line and an Openweb 2mbps package.

My line was also down, Friday to Saturday. There was an issue with IMAX dslam.

But I agree, my line is disconnecting a few times per week. Interestingly the line syncs, however there is no authentication. This was also why the dslam was off this weekend. It wouldn't authenticate.

I will try and follow up with this at the right department and post my findings.

Hm, ours was also down around that time, and we also have been getting the 'line syncs, but no authentication' behaviour. Let us know what you find out.

Hm, once again it was down this morning from just after midnight for about an hour and a bit. It's down at least once a day.

What area? I'm close to Mariner's Way and haven't had any problems.
Except for slowness.

On what side are you? Towards golf course or Dobson? If Dobson you not connectin to the IMAX dslam. Afaik it's the IMAX dslam that has authentication issues at times. I have emailed my tech so he can inform the specialists in belville to look into it.

Nearby James Close, near Firwood/Admiral.

We've had seemingly fewer disconnects over the past few days, but speeds still seem poor. Not 100% sure though, as I'm not formally monitoring it.
