Hi guys.

I went to visit my uncle last Sunday and he had this Apple G4 that he handed to me.
Apparently it was broken.....

I put in the original apple panther retail disc and held the c key down and the machine is in perfect working order.:D

Turns out the previous installation was corrupted so it was never broken.

I loaded tiger onto it and updated everything, and must say this is one beautiful aluminium powerbook with a glowing apple logo.

The machine is pretty old by todays standards, its a IBM power pc cpu running at 1.5ghz with 1 gig ddr 333 ram.

I am aware that these laptops have value and i could easily sell it and get a netbook with ddr3 ram,but im in love with this old apple.

I have owned much newer and better laptops and currently own 3 pcs besides the apple.

As an avid camper, this laptop sure is rugged and its a laptop you can actually have on your lap without risk of overheating due to it being entirely metal and dispersing heat better then i have ever seen before.

Im really confused about this one guys please advise me as to if i should keep her before she breaks or loses more potential value.

Regards DA.:confused::confused:

Use it as a fruit basket :D

lol, you will have to decide what you want to do with it. Do you actually have some use for it?

Lol yeah im using right now lying on the couch.

Mainly for internet browsing, playing some music and DVD.

The screen is actually viewable from far away so the screen is actually better then most and when i pop in a dvd and this little ancient apple loads it without nonsense.

That said technology is a cruel bastard so im two minded in case it just packs up on me......

The battery seems fine though as its been used for 55mins and still has a 63% charge.

Sounds like it is still in good order.
Also sounds like your uncle did not use it that much.

I'd keep it.

Thanks Astroturf, my gut tells me to keep it as well, although out of interest i placed an ad on gumtree selling for R2300 and i got a response within 5 mins.

NO IM KEEPING IT!!!

Im actually going to try out the old drifta to see how it performs on the apple.

Sorry guys in a moment of weakness i sold the G4.........:o

Too many hurdles to get around, like the fact that it was a USB1 powerbook with no chance of a decent Leopard install due to the 2 512mb 333MHZ DDR1 modules and a 2gig upgrade costing roughly R1187 and no USB2 external HDD support.

However im absolutely in love with the MAC OS,but i own mostly AMD systems..:erm:

What i love about Apple is the incredible build quality and ultimately incredible resale value.

I reckon im gonna hunt down the Intel quad core Q6600 and build me a beautiful Snow leopard hackintosh,as i originally planned to install it to a netbook.

Still love Apple though.

You could get 2GB of ram for about R800 for that laptop.

I would have kept it I reckon but if you got a decent price for it then all's good.

Do you still have that quad core mac set up?
I remember seeing your pc specs as your signature.
What MOBO do you or did you use Mac guru?
