Hi

I got a Officejet 6213 All in One...i got it around 4 years ago...well i now have Vista loaded on my laptop and the software that i came with doesn't work on Vista.

I tried downloading the software for Vista from the HP site and it doesn't work. i tried like 3 times and wated around 600mb cap.

I need to know how can i use my scanner on my Vista pc...is there like another type of software that i can use to get it running?

i really need to use my scanner and now i can't because of this...is there no scanning software made my MS Word or anything??? help please.

Don't download the entire software suite. Just download the drivers and then you can use any small third party app to scan with, I just installed Freekapture 10mins ago for my 6313.

or let one of us download it for you and put it somewhere where you can download it from... but ja... you don't really need the entire scanning suite... just the drivers.

If you tell us what you are mostly going to be scanning and saving as... then we can suggest a better utility for you.... like Scan2pdf or something like that.

BTW... HP's FTP site to South Africa is notoriously slow for some reason... been like that for years now.

Have tried looking under the Windows Update driver section, it's helped me on numerous occasions.

Picasa can also do scans. Not sure if it uses its own drivers, or those installed with the scanner.

The scanner twain/wia driver needs to be installed first. What he/she should look for is the "HP Commercial Twain Driver". That has what is needed. When I get back to the house I will post the link to the driver.

Its not me that will be scanning. its my parents. its going to be mostly documents and whatever will be the smallest to save as...

im leaving the house , so i'm setting up the scanner etc for them as well... when i want to scan i just normally go to my friends house but with the parents it's different hence i want to use the scanner now.

It seems like the commercial drivers only support XP and lower. You will have to try and get the drivers you have working. You just need to try and scan with any TWAIN or WIA scanning software.

I would suggest you download the entire suite.
Simply because it will allow you to use all the functions of the device properly.

Yes you can find ways around it, but it probably won't work the way it is supposed to work.

Anyways, what I do (even with clients) is download the entire software package and use the device as it is supposed to be used - this way, no problems.
