Good day

My friend has a GTX460 GPU, and he asked me if I can ask you guys.

His GPU runs at an average temp of40-50 degrees..

And fan speed is at normally 20-25%

now won't it be better to increase the fan speed to maybe 60-70-80?

I was reading somewhere on google that the FAN speed increases when temp goes.. Tested it on my friends computer, it FAN speed only goes up to 35-40% when temp is at 60-65 degrees..

So.. was just wondering..

Is it good or bad to increase the fan speed?
Or just leave it to heat up like that?

Thanks

AFAIK for GFX cards thats not much of a temperature. Have you tried increasing the fan speed, it will be damn noisy.

40-50'C is very cool for a dedicated graphics card.

My 2x GTX 460's are usually running between 60-68'C, mostly because the Coolermaster 690 II Advanced is too small for both cards.

The graphics card's firmware should automatically increase the fan speed when the temperature rises. You can also adjust the fan speed curve with something like MSI Afterburner, but it's really not necessary if the card is below 60'C.

So when the GPU max out ussage is only at 60-odd.. it's chilled? mm... Thanks

My 8800GT would go over 100'C all the time. Only started distorting over 110'C. :P

I used Rivatuner to set up a nice linear curve with my 8800GTX in an attempt to get it to stop artifacting (it never did, but this was a dodgy Memory Controller).

You could say, idle at 30% speed between 50 and 60 degrees, ramp up to 40% at 63 degrees, 60% at 75 degrees, etc.

A nice feature too was that you could have it ramp up and down seperately, if it makes sense. In other words, it would ramp up quite steeply, but when the temps drop, the fan speeds would not go down by much so as to keep it at about 50 - 60 degrees. There was a nice guide I followed here. Basically you would create 'steps', and then assign events to them to tell the fan what to do.

But anyways, that temp seems low enough to not have to worry about it :)

all gfx cards i own run at 50% speed, just like temp drop etc, though with gtx 480 i had to use 70%, or it goes nuts :P

for every 10c i add and extra 10% speed with afterburner... so if my 5850 is at 50c the fan will run at 60%
my card never goes above 55 and i play with headphones so there's no noise :D

I see..

Maybe one day I'll have to play around with that :)

Thanks anyway

Oh and I forgot to add, at 30% fan speed, my 8800GTX was idling at 55 - 60 degrees on a 22 degree day, and the one 30 degree day I had it jumped up to 67 degrees. This was both before and after I baked my card in an attempt to get rid of the artifacting. Also, what driver revision is your friend using?

Oh.. I see..

THanks hey..

kind of makes me happy to see they everyone's temp is like all the same.. ^ ^

Woa.. mm.. I see..

What are normal CPU temp?

CPU temperature limits are a bit lower. Different chips have different maxmimum temperatures, my E8400 is safe to about 70'C. You should be able to google yours.
You can also quite easily google your graphics card's maximum temperature - the Nvidia site says the GTX460 has a maximum of 104'C. :)
Naturally you should try to stay well clear of that, but it's good to know all the same!

Oh.. Thanks lol.. ^ ^

But the thing is I can't check what my CPU temp is.. I guess that means my cpu doesn't have a temp sensory thingy... right?

Please tell your friend to definitely leave that gfx cooling alone. The temps are fine and those fans speeds are fantastically quiet :D

I see.. told him that it's fine already..

But he doesn't want to believe me.. So I dont' know what he is going to do..

But anyway thanks~

What a moron, why ask for advice then? Tell him to put it up to 100% and leave it there.

Lol~

He is still my friend lol.. But you know some people just don't think stright..

But I'll tell him again.. + I refered him to this forum so he can read himself..

:)
