Hey, everyone.

I would like to upgrade my PC a bit over the next couple of months starting with the GPU.

I was hoping the GTX 1080/1070 would be priced better - however that didnt happen. Stupid me.

Do you guys think the GTX 980 etc would see a significant price drop in the near future or should I just bite the bullet and go for the 1080 or 1070? I see the 980 is going currently for about R10k.

Your insight would be awesome.

PS: Current setup:
Intel Core i5-3570K
MSI Z77A-G43
G.Skill F3-1600C9D-8GAB 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3-1600MHz
Radeon HD7870
Seasonic M12II-620 Bronze 620Watts 80 Plus
Samsung SSD

980 is all ready going sub 7k new from some suppliers :)

On carbonite.co.za I am sure you will get them for around 6k or less.

What ? Where? I didnt see anything for that price. Though i did only look at the usual suppliers like Wootware , Takealot etc...

What is your budget?

The 1070 won't be that expensive (in relative terms to the existing cards vs performance).

If I can get away for less than R8000 that would be super. Although - For a high-end card I might up it a bit.

Wait for the 1070, GTXGamaing mentioned that he will retail them at about R7500.

He's a member here on the forum under the same name.

I believe the NDA for the 1070 ends on the 10th of June and pricing will be revealed.

1070 looks to be a great buy, but wait until the partner cards are released for the best pricing options. If you're really desperate, try buying second hand - there are a LOT of people trying to flog their 980ti's and Titans for cheap to fund their 1080's.

You can also wait a few months for the new AMD cards. Polaris 10 and/or Vega 10 might provide enough performance for you, and they might be a lot cheaper than a 1070 or 1080.

The other thing is that competition might bring the price of the Nvidia cards down. Prices always come down after a launch.

Unless of course the R/$ rate gets even worse, then they might go up!

That's the problem!
