Like the others said, if you can find an MSI GPU for almost the same price, get the MSI. But, mostly PowerColor will be the best value for money, due to their cheapness.
 
Quick question: will a 7870 Myst LE perform better, worse, or the same as an R9 270X? I know it should be very close but does anyone have a solid answer, like within a 1-2% margin?

It will perform better than a R270X. It's got almost exactly the same performance as an HD7950.

Hm are you sure? From what I can see a 7870 Myst is about 3-5% slower than a 7950, and a 270X is about the same percent faster than a normal 7870. So they seem to meet in the middle.

Think of it this way. You won't be able to get a Myst anymore. So, the only option is the R270X. Also, I'd think the cooling on the R270X is a lot better. The Myst is very loud and the Temps climb quite quickly whilst gaming.

From what brand? I'm going back to US this december and planning on buying it there, can't decide between MSI, Gigabyte rev 2 and Asus.

Well I've already got a 7870 Myst and I got a 270X now. Like I say I'm not sure if it's an upgrade but I can't think that it's going to be much of a downgrade either.

It certainly is not a downgrade, but you wont see a huge difference performance wise, you will see a slight difference though. I also have the myst, and it does get hot quickly. I dont notice the noise because I use headphones, but I have temp monitoring always open on my second monitor.
 
Well so far I can't see any difference at all. Only thing is it knocked out my on board sound somehow. I guess there must have been a driver conflict but I can't get the sound to go out from the motherboard. I can use the hdmi to my tv and my soundcard works but I kinda need my front audio.

I have experienced this before, but it was on Linux. What happened was that it disabled the onboard audio because it somehow automatically set the audio to be sent over the gpu's hdmi port after installing the catalyst drivers. Not sure on how to do it on Windows, but if this is your issue you just need to switch it back to the motherboard audio.

Yeah that's done through the Sound panel. But it doesn't work now through the onboard even if I switch it back. It shows it as picking up and working normally but yet... nothing comes out. Quite puzzling. AMD drivers are always a bag of fun.

That is rather strange. I only remember them being quite annoying a few years back, haven't had issues in a while. I do hope you get it sorted. Isn't there some setting in the AMD vision panel as they call it these days?
 
Random question - Im looking to buy an r9 280x card. The Powercolor version is R3800, but is quite underclocked. The Gigabyte comes in at R4200 with a copy of BF4 and a higher clock.

Is it possible to overclock the Powercolor safely or would I be wiser to buy one that is already a bit higher because it might be cooler and built to support that level of heat?

Well, depends on how you want to overclock it. I have the powercolor 7870 Myst, and I did expirment with overclocking a bit with litecoin mining. I can say this, the card is LOUD when overclocked, but mine only has one fan. I think it should overclock okay, but not sure.

You can get a Sapphire card for cheaper than the gigabyte eventually I think though.

I have heard good things of MSI cards, never owned one myself, but some friends have MSI cards and they are happy with them.
 
Yeah the MSI has military electrical components as they call it which is basically excellent circuitry and components. Powercolor doesn't have this and is only two year warranty with a strange colour scheme for some.

I have a GTX680 lightning from MSI, and its an awesome card. Their coolers are really efficient and quiet.

They are grey imports and they don't keep stock. Those that ordered over a month ago still don't have theirs :-(
 
For the people buying cards out there , make sure you get 3gb vram + cards , seems 2gb is to little these days :(

Testing a gtx 680 here , runs out of vram on bf4 :(

Just something to keep in mind , i am running at 2560x1080 and dell releasing there new 4k monitors soon also :P

4k bracket go for R 9280x

5.5k go for R 9290 , best value for money card in world right now!
