They would have run the numbers of a GTA 6 launch over the holiday period vs delaying it to after the holidays.
My layman's guess is they would make way more from a holiday release. There would be plenty that buy into the current gen just for this game, and it's not like they will stop making money from GTA 5.
Why wouldn't you want to use the busiest time of the year to generate 2 incomes instead of 1...

Well that should only happen in Los Santos/San Fierro. Won't make sense if that happens in Vice City.

There's no way they'll skip the money farm like that. Now it might not launch with an online version...maybe they'll see how well they can run 5 online + 6 sp for a while, but my guess is that 5 online will suffer once 6 is released.
