Grand Theft Auto 6

Probably a lot less, GTAV hit 16 million units in in five days.
They going to struggle, as they aren't releasing on PC at launch, if anything it is going to come back and bite them in the ass.......

To be honest GTA games after san andreas weren't great, GTA 4 sucked, and GTA 5 main story was a 3rd of what san adreas and vice city was.

It wouldn't surprise me if they push mirco transactions with GTA 6.....

I haven't paid attention to any game releases in that last 8 -10 years, absolutely nothing but shallow , woke, I got the prettiest graphics in the last couple of years. Might have been one or two exceptions.

It is an absolutely cluster fck to be honest....

I believe that 2 billion was what they said would be required for development including support over the game's life, so about 10 years.

GTA V made 1.15 billion in 5 days, they will make billions in that game's lifetime with sales and all the online microtransactions.

GTAV only released on PC 18 months after the initial release.

Not a fan of the games anymore either, but I played the hell out of Vice City in the day.

Yes it's a like for like comparison. GTA V never released for PC initially either. That 16m copies in a week was just consoles...

Yeah I don't see them selling that many again. There is a point where people get tired of the same old thing..........call of duty sales already slumped and is down 38% from the previous release.

With all that has been going on in gaming.....rockstar is in for a surprise.....

Actually switched over to saints row 3 and 4. which were greats also around the time farcry 2 and 3 made waves and borderlands 1 and 2 came out.

The last call of duty game I played was modern warfare, to me there is only ever still two call of duty games, call of duty and exp united offensive and call of duty 2. Also around the time brothers in arms dethroned EA games with their medal of honor series.

I would rather play the original KOTOR over again then play the crap they have been putting out lately. Was a huge tomb raider fan, shadow of the tomb raider was absolutely meh, zero substance. Have fond memories playing KOTOR

I don't think you understand how many people play GTA, and how much they make from an 11 year old GTA V. You're free to not like it and lose interest, but that's not going to stop it from becoming the biggest selling piece of entertainment.

Every other publisher is probably going to push out their releases so it doesn't coincide, which should tell you everything you need to know...

I don't think you quite understand.....11000 layoffs, decline in console sales, overall sales decline in most markets, EU only 1.6% while UK market down 30%, even US fell by 3%...US console sales dropped nearly 40%. 2024 has been rather slow and will continue to slow down to some extend, inflationary costs have skyrocketed.

Just because it is popular doesn't mean it will sell.....concord is a prime example that not even heavily polished triple AAA title will survive not in the current economic conditions. Yes GTA will sell well but it isn't going to be end all of releases. Not even the new COD was saved from sluggish sales.

The new playstation 5 at 700$ is rough... ps5 has sold 56 million units in 4 years and expected to be replaced in 2027, it is 62 million units behind total sales of the PS 4, so not likely it will drastically out sell the PS4 in 3 years. Average sales are about a million a month, currently that is 12 million +- a year and 36 million in 3 years still short of the PS4 lifetime sales.

So yeah likely to sell either short of the PS4 or just slightly more. If the rumors are correct and GTA 6 is delayed, till at least 2026 and Playstation 6 is due 2027, it could impact sales quite a lot, if the playstation 6 is backward compatible which probably might be the case, xbox will want to match PS as much as possible on console releases.

Then yeah rockstar will likely be in for a surprise, there is also a expected price increase on AAA games as well.

Really isn't a good time to be a game dev at the moment regardless of the title and popularity.

$70 premium edition to play it at 30fps and then shell out money for DLC ($50) and then probably a $90 PC edition with all the DLC a couple years later.

I have first hand experience of just how hard sales have fallen in 2024, people are still buying games but the volume is significantly less and they are extremely selective about what they get.

Sales should pick up a little during the holiday season and winter in the northern hemisphere, gaming in particular does have seasonal spikes in sales.

But we do have this little thing call a war happening in Europe that is adding to inflation directly and indirectly it is going to take some time before the impact of it is reduced to manageable levels, with possible reversal at some point.

Entertainment just isn't the top of the list currently, the current US housing crisis bubble not likely to burst but housing is being kept artificially high it is compounded by above average inflation. It isn't close to what it was 11 years ago when the GTA 5 released.

Any expectation of overwhelming sales should really be kept conservative, just isn't a good time for at least the next 2 years. everything is in the shitter across the world....

My prediction is it will be the best selling game on PS5 by a large way with well over 10 million copies, maybe even up to 20 million.

The game will sell somewhere between R1500 and R2100. Making it a top 5 all time selling game.

Reason why, I look at the price of PC parts where in 2016 for 20k you had a top of the range pc and now you are in for 50-60k. These parts are also sold out all the time. Everything is so bloated people are used to paying stupid prices.

He seems to have this weird idea that his gripes and preferences are universally shared. I mean, no good games in the last 8-10 years? Please.

Yeah no I don't think he's grasping what an absolute behemoth GTA is, it doesn't matter what crisis is happening where in the world, GTA 6 will make a billion dollar in sales in 48 hours.

GTA 5 just on Steam alone hasn't been under 100k peak monthly players in 5 years, I can't even imagine what that number would be if you added the console players.

Current PS5 GPU hardware is equivalent of a RTX 2080.....PS5 pro is being made for 400$ and slapping a 300$ premium on top of it.
A $1000 prebuild system with a ryzen 5 and RTX 4060 just about beats the PS5 graphically. Sure the PS5 system it self runs significantly more efficient and able to get away with a lot more.

But the older the PS5 gets the easier it is to beat performance wise on lower end hardware. You don't need to spend 50K on a PC to play the latest games that is entirely bulldust..... PS5 pro could be listed at about 21K here.

With 21k budget it isn't hard to smoke the PS5 and have a decent system where you would only need to upgrade the GPU at some point. PC hardware has a significantly longer shelve life in part due to been upgrade-able, if I were to upgrade now, the PC will likely outlive both the PS5 and PS6 with only having to upgrade the GPU at some point during the PS6 life cycle and consoles and games aren't getting any cheaper, they also pushing for consoles to be always online and trying to do away with physical media. To me consoles has lost the appeal the benefit has been physical media and offline play. Which is why I am still stuck on a 360 it is perfectly fine still a little older and not nearly as graphical impressive but it is home......

AS for GTA 6. I am well aware it GTA 5 is pretty much the best selling game of all time, it doesn't however detract from the current state of gaming, economic conditions as well current social issues and culture. It is rumored to have budget of 2 billion dollars so it will need to sell a lot before breaking even.

The thing is, there is speculation and it is probably likely that rockstar will be pushing the online aspects of GTA 6 and micro transactions in favor of a shorten single player campaign, which might not go over well with the fanbase, Current fanbase is also aging, most are well into their 30 and 40s now.

So it isn't the full fanbase of the original, it now has to deal with a fortnite and mobile gaming woke gen z fanbase and appeal to them.

Make no mistake it will sell well, even break a record or two, expectations that it will outsell the GTA 5 in a shorter time frame is up for debate, it entirely depends what aspects they push, like mirco transactions, which might not go over well. Certain design choices could drop it like a sack of shyte.

Rockstar has rarely made mistakes, but nothing is infallible, Call of duty didn't age well, the current release failed to meet expectations.

Just because it sold 200 million copies in 11 years doesn't mean the next one will do as well, it depends on how many consoles were sold, and currently sales aren't great, game sales is also impacted on console sales, just something to keep in mind.

Ignoring the fact that console sales have significantly slowed down, it is the era of mobile gaming, growth has been exceptional there has been some decline but still corners about half of the entire market......

It is a wait and see......it depends not holding my breath....I am older now online play doesn't appeal to me in the slightest online toxicity has ruined any fondness I might have had for it. I have no doubt they will be pushing online play much harder with this one.........in which case meh, and probably not the only one

You mean exectly like GTAV, the best-selling game of all time? The game that is still super popular with the fanbase today and that is still selling very well even though all the focus is on Online?

Yes but there's a new COD game released every year, so very much buyer fatigue.

GTAV released 11 years ago so everyone is desperate for a new GTA. 6 will be the highest grossing game of all time.

yeah there are still people that play single player you know. online play will form a big part of it. Something I haven't touched and something I did touch on, was about the current socio-political climate and such, didn't really touch on it much, but rockstar has so far made some changes with regards to political correctness in GTA 5 by removing and changing some jokes.

What made the originally gta great was the fact of don't give a fck and their stereo typical and satirical view of America and culture in general, that is all gone now, they would be absolutely roasted if they attempt anything like that with GTA 6, so yeah it is going to be PC.

This could impact the game greatly how the single player story plays out.

Additionally several higher management team members and senior developers have left the company, mid GTA 6 development especially the writer for the original games, Dan Houser, who was notorious for rewriting things till it is polished.

It also came out the working conditions at rockstar isn't great and has led to several developers leaving and in some way stall progress, interviews with rockstar employees have said some have left due to no progress being made on the game.

Its development has been troubled which raises doubts about whether or not it is as good as it should have been.

Dan houser doesn't make the game, but does have a significant impact on the direction of the game, it isn't exactly rosey in rockstar land.

A good example what happens to a game when your original team and senior developers leave a company is borderlands pre sequel and to some extend borderlands 3, while favorable reviews it has been critized for lack of invovation and writing.

Borderlands 2 still outselling borderlands 3, is a good as any indication sequals can bomb from the original.

With developers having left, senior writer and senior management that were involved since the start, relying on new writers and developers mid development company politics ect, generally doesn't do any game any favors.

Could spell disater for GTA 6, especially if they need to shy away from what made the previous games great.
There are several games you wouldn't be able to make in the current socio political climate we currently have

So no, my unpopular opinion isn't unwarranted, current woke culture investing gaming currently isn't doing anyone any favors, just because one is popular next one will be too, is flawed logic and time and time again if the entertainment industry is anything to go by, don't put your eggs in one basket. A predessor that is 11 years old and was in development long before the current woke investation isn't a metric you should go on, nor expect the same success. You are setting your self up for failure.

Been in the industry for 20 years, profesional for 10+, you don't fck with what works gamers are going to turn on you in a heart beat.

You really shouldn't be using the old game as a metric for success. You are more than welcome to bookmark this post and will eat humble pie, I would rather eat humble pie than face the fact that another game fallen victim to woke culture, it isn't rosey in rockstar land and it may spell trouble, seems like I offended people lol. Don't really care....Nothing is ever too big to fail...

Have you played it? Seems like your mind is already made up, no point harping on about it then...

Anyone thinking GTA 6 will struggle to sell at $70, clearly isn’t paying attention. GTA 6 will be a money printing machine for Rockstar.

People will be drawn to the game as always. In the same way, someone like myself will be drawn to TES6. I hope they don't screw it up (TES6, that is).
