Dude costs are prohibitly expensive. My average hourly rate for freelance work is between $50 - $60. Average project $750 - $1000 and depends on the client.

I sold two licenses two a UK company in 2020 for 50K, they currently selling several licenses on my behalf for the next 5 years, generally they don't extend the licenses after the 5 year term and usually just buy the licenses. Get license royalties during the 5 year term which nets met about 70-80k a license and then the buy out. Get about 70 -100k a year just on license fees that is over and above other projects and store front sales which is closing in on around $20 000 lifetime sales.....

That is on the lowend, it is a small company, either you lower your rates or don't get work, a larger company it would be triple that.

I can stress enough just how expensive productions costs are, form software license fees and man hours, it is insane.

I reckon the trailer is about 85% cutscenes actually. Looking at the trailer, the only parts I can see that look like actual gameplay are all the footage of Jason driving, boating and jetskiing.

@NR7 already posted the rockstar tweet. I'm saying to me it looks like mostly cutscenes because a lot of it is people talking or typical GTA pre-mission cutscenes :)

The camera angles give it away. Very few of those were gameplay scenes. Still looks good though.

Whether it's cut scenes or gameplay is irrelevant, it's all in-game footage. GTA never had pre-rendered cut scenes, it always used the in-game engine and shifted seamlessly between gameplay and cut scenes...

Exactly. What you see in every trailer is what you get in the game. Has been like that for as long as I've known Rockstar.

(Except for GTA2 and its live-action trailer which was made by DMA Designs which later became Rockstar North :))

Well scenes with fancy camera angles can still be gameplay. You can activate cinematic camera during gameplay and Rockstar does of course have the tools to tweak camera angles however they want for a trailer.

But yeah I agree most of the trailer was made from cutscenes.

Spoken like someone who has literally zero clue and just says dumb ****.

Good job.
Apologies keyboard warrior, did not know you work for finance for Rockstar.
Could you maybe inform all us dumb****'s when the gameplay trailer is gonna drop.
Awesome to have a rockstar employee on MYBB. !!!

Well, you stated it wont cost X amount. You tell US how you know that for us plebs?

Idiot.

Game budgets are always a topic of lovely speculation, at the end of the day what matters more is if they make money, I find it especially pointless to argue about it as devs almost never lay down the budgets for public eyes.

Does it really matter if it costs $2b if they make their money back in the first few days?

And just as a reminder, GTA5 sales popped past the $1b mark in the first 3 days

Need to explain this. lol

In terms of games camera view can have different angles, for example, 1 st person, 3rd person, top down and isometric,

FPS for example the camera view is physically attached to the player, some times it attached directly to the character model of the player, especially in multiplayer games. For single player most games opt for the cheaper rendering option of having only an arm rig or legs and arm rig.

For 3rd person you have an actual player the camera rig is attached behind the player and a physical representation of the character model.

Much like IRL camera actions because you aren't trying to hide what isn't there you have similar camera effects you would see IRL. dolly, pan ect.

But the point is in scripted scenes you can physically detached the camera from the character model and spawn an actual player for the scripted scenes.( you can dynamically load and unload assets in a 3d game, only applies to dynamic objects, static objects are part of the level geometry)

There seems to be some confusion about whether it is in game or pre rendered. Having something scripted doesn't mean it isn't actual gameplay, it is very likely gameplay with a detached camera that follows scripted way points.

Even pre rendered cutscenes now days are in game, and can blur the lines a little, as pre rendered cutscene can apply higher graphical effects higher, quality shadows and filtering effects as it only needs to render the output frame by frame and "stiched" together to create the pre rendered scene. So it can still be gameplay but just output at higher fidelity and not in realtime. It is quite common.

However here cutscenes and gameplay was done in realtime no tom foolery or pre rendered footage, having odd camera angles doesn't make something pre rendered or post processing. Camera angles can and are handled dynamically as cutscenes are "scripted" and just viewed from angles other than the player
