Expected hours over price? How did you arrive at it's reasonable and will you say the same when games goes beyond this?

This will be the first GTA with no disc version for pc as well though. GTAV still had a physical release for pc, a whopping 7 discs.

Personally I would be happy if they release a code in box version for pc just so that I can get a box and goodies inside lol. Beats having to do this every time just so that I can have an empty box for my collection on my bookshelves (don't laugh, I just think it looks cool and I love boxart haha):

The game will be cheaper on Steam and Epic in any case. I will assume that the standard edition will be R1299, but I won't be able to tell. Ever since June 1st, ZAR pricing has been strange with newly announced titles. This game was supposed to come out in May, right? I won't know, at least Take-Two didn't tax our market over and above VAT, because that is happening.

Like I said earlier, for pc I get why there can't be a physical release. It would require 30-40 discs.

There might still eventually be a disc version for consoles though.

No one said "space quest 4 on 40+ stiffies" just a disc as a physical token dressed up in gold or whatever making it nice to have. I mean **** be bold and do an oversized 1.44 stiffy for this making it nice and leet.
 
Will probably pre-order, been excited for the game for donkeys years. Whats the consensus on the ultimate edition? Worth it?
 
I am curious whether the next gen consoles will have a disc drive? Even MS has been hush on all things preservation, because not too long ago they launched a preservation program, but is seemingly being backtracked on.

Not even the Steam Machine has one, but I am quite sure that you can connect an external drive. That said, seeing that GTA 6 is not too badly priced in ZAR, it is better value than the Steam Machine.

True. For what could be the biggest release in gaming history, they should have made more of an effort.

I still think there will at least be maps, guides and posters etc in the box though regardless. That will be good enough for me.

I think discs are going to become obsolete next-gen the games are just going to be too big. Would be nice to see some type of proprietary physical medium like the Switch has to trade games, but imagine that would just increase the price.

Probably not. I got disc versions of the Series X and PS5 also believing that I wanted to buy good old fashioned discs. 6 years later and I haven't bought a single disc game this generation. I must have used my drives a combined total of two times to play some random old games for nostalgia. Everyone going on about discs needs to calm down, breathe, and think like a rational adult. That's one of the smallest issues to worry about.

What would be cool is a marketplace to "sell" your license to other people, to make up for the second hand market that discs used to drive...

You have no idea what you are taking about. I have issues with my discs and it is one of the biggest issues that make me worry a lot. I hate back pain.

Yeah, but compression technologies are becoming very good. Then there is also the hardware end where developers and publishers can look into neural compression, but then you would still require bespoke hardware. I am quite certain that the long-term goal is to move gamers onto the cloud.

Still, the option to have installation media with SD textures will be welcoming, and then having HD as an optional download. These traditional methods, ignoring advanced compression, do exist. The corporate mantra that people shouldn't own anything, and be happy, is slowly becoming reality because choice is being removed.

I doubt that selling licenses will ever become a reality since it is legally tailored to an user. In the EU, though, there are special provisions to 'sell' licenses, though it is only applicable to business and it comes with conditions. There is too much IP tied up into licensing.

The best that people can get, and I am recognising ownership, is that the right to use and access becomes protected.
