Graphics card overheating

GPU's will slow down when overheating, it's called throttling, that's why you have those slowdowns until the temp drops enough then it speeds up and temps rise again.

This isn't serious and you don't need to get a new car (if you don't believe me and still think it's buggered and that you have to get a new card I will happily pay for postage for you old "broken" card to me)

The two most likely reasons are, the heat-sink isn't making proper contact with the core or the fan isn't going fast enough because of software or is malfunctioning. You could quite easily fix either.

Yeah, I know what throttling is, I talked about it in my first post. :)

The heat-sink is still making proper contact and the fan is still spinning, same as always. It was literally a case of "Hmmm, let's slot this card into the new motherboard. It's working properly, yay!" and then a few days later "Hmmm, that's odd..."

If the fan is malfunctioning then I'll just buy a new card in any case, too much effort to replace the card since I've been planning on upgrading my graphics card for a while in any case... And no, you're not getting my old card :D Thanks for the suggestions anyway. :)

Yes I noticed you know what it is, so that isn't why i reiterated it ;)

Have you tried reseating the HSF? That's the only real way of checking if it's making proper contact.

It's no problem :)

Yes I've tried reassembling the HSF but the problem persists... :(

No offence here, I don't know how much experience you have but, when you reset it did you put on some fresh quality paste, like AS5 or the like? If you have, it can still take upto 200 hours (if I remember AS5's details right) of use before it completely sets and works at it's optimal.

Yes I did, some Zalman paste that one of my buddies lent me :)

And my PC has been on constantly for the past few weeks, so if it hasn't set by now it never will :D

I think I'll just buy a new card and get it over with...

A small glass of water is also sufficient, although less satisfying ;)

Mine would run away or wet itself in fear if I even came near it with a toothbrush. Your computer's are very brave. :D

That's because I leave the flying helmet and the wet celery out of the equation... :D

I'm reporting you, next thing you will end up in the news and current affairs section, don't say I didn't warn you :D

As long as no-one reports the egg whisk and the flying goggles... :D

My PC is behaving itself rather nicely these few days... Except for the whole 125'C thing :D

lols, calls to admin to ban this dominatrix thread. :D

Maybe it's the appeal of the sexy quad core that causes the gfx card to get a bit flustered
