Gravity

Not to mention featuring the best 3d special effects of any movie ever, and the biggest advance in science fiction cinematography since 2001.

Great movie, I don't regard it as science fiction, however - it is just a space drama.

Nothing in there is not happening already, in fact, shuttles have already been consigned to history, you could regard this as a period work.

Saw it in 3d, and I liked it for all the reasons.

Not a very good story and the fetus scene is a little forced, but I liked the experience.

the part with learning Russian in 6 months of training, that was pushing the realism a little bit for me

even Mark Shuttleworth had to spend a year in Russia first before applying and going to training.

otherwise great movie, just shows you how small and insignificant we are in the grand scheme of things.

.

Maybe they had prior training in the USA. Knowing Russian is now a NASA prerequisite for it's astronauts, maybe the 6 months refers to a sharpening course and dealing with the space 'lingo' they use which you don't get from learning normal russian.

Very good movie.
You can't expect much of a storyline other then the sequence of events putting astronauts under pressure and some history around the characters.
I enjoyed the drama being intertwined with the action, specifically the conflict within the Sandra character.

Having said that, I would have to agree that neither Sandra nor Clooney had the right ingredients for their respective character roles. Personally I think someone like Cate Blanchett/Jessica Chastain and maybe Viggo Mortensen/Michael Shannon would have been a better choice

I don't give a panty about the CGI crap. It doesn't enhance the quality of the story, that's the problem.

You had the wrong expectation, therefore the movie sucked?

Yes. I always expect a good story when I watch a highly-praised movie.

What was the praise you heard for? If someone praised it for the story they were either thinking of something else or they can't be very smart.

The movie was definitely more an art piece than anything else. It's about the cinematography, the score, the power of silence, the framing of personal fears etc.

Expensive movie needed some star power to get off the ground, so Scarlet Johannsen and Hugh Jackman would've been a better choice.

Scarlets boobs and ass alone defies the law of gravity so it would've been interesting to see how they shape up in space.

Clooney was like a space flirt who literally got blown off.

Watched it a few days ago!! Must have been immense in 3D and I'm pi ssed that I didn't watch it on the big screen!!

Few of us will ever get the opportunity to walk in space but from a technical perspective I'm guessing this movie was pretty darn accurate!!

I thought the cinematography was breath taking and the acting excellent too. This was really just a cast of 2 and competing with stunning views and special effects of out of space!!

I found it riveting, edge of your seat stuff that kept me captivated from the 1st minute to the very last!! Often found myself having to consciously take a breath!!

I'd give it a 8/10

Yeah, I never saw the trailer for this movie so hadn't really any preconceived ideas of what it was about. Hell, I didn't even know Clooney was in it. Knew it was set in space and actually thought Julia Roberts was the lead actress.... :o What I look for in movies these days is realism and uniqueness and Gravity delivered both IMO.

That's awesome!!! Will definitely be checking it out!!

EDIT: @DarkSpectre you should probably watch the 3D re-release!! Anything less just won't do it justice!!
