Greencom

Is this yours? Before I rally up the estates in my area, could you perhaps check why DFA decided not to cover Syringa Ave (-25.996558, 27.989651) and how the 3 estates along this road would get fibre. Quite bizarre that they ran along Broadacres Dr and Riverview as along those roads are only two developments (stretch of 2km) whereas on 500m there are 3 fully occupied estates.

What is the min requirement of spend/users for my estate to have fibre installed - we have 200 houses within the estate.

I really wish I could help and comment but I can;t as I am still waiting. Its been 15 days now without WiFi at home and its starting to piss me off a little now. And its cost me 30GB of mobile data so far. :(

The last time I have had such bad communication was when I was with iBurst. It really is shocking at the moment. Technical people tell you something, sales lady says something else and the contractor says something totally different. You might find it hard to believe but right up until now Telkom has given me a much better service and I am not even connected yet. :/

Even with a lot of emails, there should be at least some acceptable level of service. If you want peoples money you must offer a good service. Bad news spreads much faster so its something they should keep an eye on.

I also think I saw Metro Fibre teams connecting other complexes in Naivasha Road. I wonder what their pricing looks like.

I hear you D3x. I'm contemplating telling them to keep their fibre and just going to Telkom. I moved into Sunninghill 3 months ago and decided to not get involved with Telkom, thinking the fibre would be along soon...

EDIT : I've just heard that the final day for installing the fibre will be Wednesday the 21st October, and hopefully this will mean that getting the fibre up and running will happen shortly after that. I can wait another week for my symmetrical 10 Mbps line with the bonus of avoiding Telkom.

Good to hear and lucky you. Some of us are still waiting for replies via email when we will go live. I am going to CT on Wednesday so I would like it working by then so my wife at least has wifi when I am gone but I told her not to get her hopes up.....

Give Paul a call - he seems to be really clued up. Also still awaiting on any sort of eta

How likely are these guys to roll out to an area with mainly residential houses instead of complexes?

I live in such an area and need to get an idea before handing out tons of flyers and whatnot.

@feo : you should call Greencom about that, to get fibre into Sunninghill they set up an entire website to gauge peoples' interest and determine the viability.

If my fibre will not be up and running by the 10th November I think I'll weep.

I have been sending him emails and reminders about something. I have also communicated with him over Whatsapp as well.

I've been in contact with Colin and they seem like they're targeting complexes but they can't just exclude free standing homes, we wanna give them our cash too!

I'm not too sure what's the best way forward to get exposure? Ad in the newspaper? Flyers?

Its not that they are excluding the houses completely. Its just that getting complexes up and running will generate a lot more revenue as opposed to connecting a few houses in a single street. The Kanyin in Sunninghill next to the Leeuwkop Prison alone has 89 blocks x 6 units / block = 534 units. They would need to dig a **** load of trenches to cover that type of coverage when it comes to houses. Being a business I am sure they are just smartly targeting the complexes so they can generate cash-flow and then they can start doing a lot more streets where houses are.

Its a business and trust me they want your money... :D

Yeah I guess that's true but households are also more likely to spend more on the higher packages.

I've whatsapped Paul to see if he can help.

Savuti Sands still nothing and not even a contractor is sight today. Oh well, if its too good to be true... :p

Is Greencom still active on this thread?

In my message to Paul on Whatsapp earlier I told him that there was a lot of questions on the MyBB Greencom thread and that he should check it out.

I guess they are a little too busy. :)

My whatsapp also promptly got ignored there.

I am ever so sorry for listening to a lady that works in sales for Greencom who told me my fibre would be up and running on the 01.10. I wouldn't have cancelled my ADSL then...

That's rough, at least you're on the roadmap for fibre though.

Had the same thing. Had to rush to re-instate it before the cancellation kicked in. At least the ONT is installed now - hopefully you get yours in a few days

ONT just went in - now just to call and activate. Shimbali Sands

Yes! Brilliant news. I was half expecting them to say they are still waiting for their ONTs to be delivered with a a 2 week backlog :/

@D3x, I moved in in July, and expecting them to be done mid August I never bothered getting in touch with Telkom...little did I know.
