GTA 6 delayed again

I wonder if this will be one of the last mega-AAA games like this. The gaming market is becoming increasingly fickle and I wonder how many more multi-billion dollar projects will get greenlit.

It might just be a dying breed unless GTA 6 can somehow revitalise the industry. With consoles becoming so expensive now though this is going to be a tough ask.

And that is the problem with game development nowadays, this game started for the Xbox One generation, now it seems it may p into the next gen... Which means 3 generations of consoles for a game?
Whereas the 360 era you'd get 3 to 4 games a generation for an IP
Almost feels like the consoles must chip in. The release of this game will drive sales on whatever planform its available on.

I'll most likely choose my next console based on this game. Not just because of the game but because its where the the game is being launched.

i wish more studios would rather delay and get the game ready than just release for the sake of releasing

Yup. This is why I have zero issues with Rockstar delaying the game. Take your time, get it right.

It'll be released on both. For me the question is rather which console to get without considering GTA6. With MS releasing everything on PS, I see no reason to buy an Xbox...

Doubt. This game will sell like hotcakes. Console sales will happen just because of this game.

Might be - I think we are moving towards a game of this scale being a planform.
So instead of a single narrative experience being the primary reason for making the game, its going to be the ability of others to make content on the game.
This is what happened with GTA 5 anyway. It was an amazing game but the reason people still play it is because of customisations and online play. Think Roblox, Fortnight, Minecraft etc.

So you are right... it's probably the last of its kind. The next generation of AAA games will be demo's for their respective platforms.

They're not releasing everything on PS, just selected games. Not a bad idea, as the console itself doesn't make money, the games do.

I'll wait for the enhanced PC version to release.

Console only release is a gamble. Look at what happened to Horizon: Forbidden West (a good game). Released on Playstation only, and got immediately overshadowed by Elden Ring a few days later which released on all platforms. They probably lost a ton of revenue because of it.

GTA is a much bigger franchise though and is almost "too big to fail". I'll be watching from the sidelines to see how it all plays out.

What does loss of revenue have to do with not playing it? It doesnt impact the game.

That has little to nothing to do with "console only" release and more to do with general bad timing. Just from memory: Alan Wake 2 got pushed because of Spider Man 2, tons of indies got pushed when Silksong released, etc.

Titanfall 2 got released too close to BF and suffered as well. Many such cases. Anyway, no one wants to release even remotely close to GTA6, it's going to suck up all the air in the room.

Why would one post on a thread titled "GTA 6 delayed again" from last year?

Giving us unnecessary panic attacks

And here I am having played like 30 minutes of this franchise on the PS2.

I suppose the good news is I could jump into GTAV as an all-new experience for me...

That's how much they sold. They could have got a lot more. Sales are highest during the first few weeks after launch. They missed out on the first few weeks of hype because fewer people were playing/streaming/talking about and advertising their game.

Sure, but you don't even get some PS games on Xbox. PS has a bigger library, what's the selling point for Xbox?

GP can only take them so far, and it's not like PS+ is that bad, in fact in some ways it's actually better...

Ok, psychic one.

What are the winning Lotto numbers for this Wednesday?

Yeah but why would you want them on Xbox when they're on PC? When both console games are on PC why would you want either console? Plus it's not like this generation has shown either console to be anything special, there are no games, unless you count the PS5 being the remaster, remake console of choice and the xbox new IP place to die cause of bugs.
