Google is sending out messages to users of the Windows Google Talk desktop app that its services will be ending in February

They've sent out this message twice in the past year, wonder if they'll actually follow through and pull the plug this time?

I'm guessing they're hoping to drive tons of users to Hangouts with this, but that never happened, so they didn't shut it down - everyone that I know is going to move to skype when they're forced off gtalk. Having an instance of the increasingly memory leaky Chrome running 24/7? No thanks!

I wonder though, will the old jabber interface still be retained? e.g. for OSX, you can simply use iMessages to basically get continuity working a bit nicer than the Hangout (especially if you dont have chrome open 24/7 and want a converged messaging app).

Ps. says it should be fine.. so just the desktop and gmail app
