Yeah. The only time I would buy something on Gumtree that's not done face to face is if it's really rare and less than R350.
 
Gumtree is fine. I have made 2 sales (R300 & R2 000) at my house and both went great. I've bought a complete PC and extra RAM from separate people, which went great, mostly. The guy I bought the box from didn't give me a power cord and he was full of sh*t when I wanted to go get it from him the next day. Ultimately, I had to buy one from a shop for around R30.

Have you ever bought something from someone out of town? IMO most people who get scammed are from smaller dorpies where they have limited choice.

:crylaugh::crylaugh::crylaugh:.That doesn't make sense at all if he is "aware of scammers" how can he fall for the oldest scammer trick in the book.My very first classifieds transaction was me trying to sell a laptop and I was called by a buyer who tried to buy my laptop.I gave him my banking details and he did a transfer which reflected in my bank account,I called my bank to confirm it was cleared and they said it was a cheque deposit.Idiot was harassing me to send the laptop for the next two days.I flat out refused,I said I will release when funds are cleared lol a few days later RD cheque.

Since then I don;t even bother handing out my banking details to these fake buyers.You friend clearly doesn't have a clue about scammers!:erm:

+1 and if you're still skeptical meet at a police station no honest person will refuse that.

+1,I've never been scammed yet.Only once did some idiot scam my brothers secretary because he was busy he let he handle the selling and the "buyer" swapped the original phone out for a dummy while pretending to have a look at it.But yeah she didn't have the required two brain cells.
