GW vs. WoW

..look for the zillion other threads about this subject.

In short :

Wow = not free , GW = free .
WoW = Massive Seamless World , GW = Arena Focussed

I'd almost go as far as saying

WoW = Morrowind/Oblivion , GW = Unreal Tournament/Counterstrike

[Obviously WoW have some GW elements and vice versa, but the focus difference is obvious]

Is guild wars better than WoW? Bacause WoW looks awesome.

If you got the money and 30 friends on WoW, go for WoW.

Me, I prefer GW, when I'm not playing it, it doesn't feel like i'm wasting money (monthly subscription) and I dont need 30 people to kill the "last" boss :P

WoW and GW are 2 totally different games.

GW isn't a true MMO but rather an Instanced MMO so comparing them is moot.

In the end it's all down to what you enjoy personally. I've tried both and WoW appealed to me more so I play wow.... a lot.

From what i can tell the the pve department is quite shallow in comparison to WoW, but then again WoW was designed to keep you playing forever and paying Subs.

GW has quite a balanced and competitive PvP System,(WoW is also competitive but not balanced)

Its more focused on Teamplay and group combinations that have a rock,paper scissor effect.With limited spell choices for more tactical gameplay, while WoW is more item focused which basically means the more you play the better items you get, with huge Time sinks required to even become competitive in PvP,Once again keep you playing make them richer.While in GW it takes very little time in pvp to be competitive,but Mucho Team Play.

Gogo henchies in FOW! :D

I played both and ended up on wow, let me tell you what made me decide on WoW.

GW, you only see and interact with people inside towns. The economy is rather messed up and the gear is confusing.

WoW played it after my Guildwars run for about 3 months.

WoW you run with people all over the game not just in towns, while doing quests you run into people who might be doing the same quest and team up. Or they might be 50 lvl's higher than you and help you just because their borred (aka Boosting)

The fun part is the PvP in WoW.

In GW you have arena's only for PvP. In WoW you can PvP any place any where (PvP server). If not you roll on a Normal server and only PvP when you want to. In both the above you still have arenas also which is great fun.

The gear is easy to understand and customise the way you like it, meaning enchants gems and so forth. Gear is easy to understand and there is about 6 different classes you can play, one will suite your play style.

Anyway that is my 2c

Imho the gear in GW is easier... You have your gear that you can upgrade (which costs materials + money / using the collectors for gear upgrades) and you can 'enchant' it with Runes :p Ill admit the economy is rather hectic: WTS q9 20/20 15^50 max Emerald Swirly Sword 100k + 80e! (I understand that sadly) as well as the insane pricing of extremely rare mini-pets (check gwwiki... 1 or 2 actually go for 5000k!)

Atm i'm playing both :) Rushing a dervish thru Nightfall to get to HM DOA runs while raiding 5/7 times a week in BT/MH, not to mention a 8-5 job :D

i never played GW, new to the MMORPG's u see.. :p but WoW is awesome!! the only thing i HATE is the subscription :( but the gameplay is great :cool:

Question: How Long Does a Character Last In both Games? ie: Max Char Level? I mean like Neverwinter Nights 2 was Gr8 but then you get level 20 and then you go awww ... my character is maxed out? Im not interested in items,i want extensive character growth, and if both of these are mainly item based like titans quest(level 20 guy gets his but whooped by a level 1 with magic items is so blah),then i wont bother with either then,i want one mega power full character that you can see has killed 1000+ okes...not multiple ones because my original is maxed .

WoW is balanced and what you're looking for as per your question.

There is no way a person of any build would be able to kill another which is even 5 lvl's higher than him. And the level difference as it is today can be 1 - 70 as for the expansion coming out it will be 1 - 80. Meaning a lvl 68 char can't kill a lvl 70 char, however the lvl 68 can kill the lvl 65 players and so forth. There is no way a lvl 1 player can kill a lvl 10 player and so forth.

On lvl to lvl combat it's mainly about gear and little skill as opposed to skill only. So the more you play the longer you farm to get gear the stronger you are for lvl on lvl combat. Anyway, hope you choose what is good for you and not what we tell you :p

i believe there are youtube vids of low level rogues (1,5 or 10 cant remember) taking on guys 10-15 levels higher than them
