GWM HOVER

Yes but that is because yoo WILL be hit by the side impact and get injured directly. Injury from side impact with Hover, because it is high, it will be secondary - i.e. not be direct injury but due to the accident itself. in other words the vehicle that hits you, i.e. would typically hit a point lower than your seated position - you would still get injured no doubt - but you will live.

Dude, you've got R215-odd. There's a lot of good quality used 4x4s you can buy at that price. Seriously, do that rather.

Actually, you'll find that "high" cars that aren't engineered properly are bloody dangerous in an accident to the occupants.

SO right! But also what these meat heads do is raise the 4x4 even higher and then wonder why they get killed when it rolls over when offroad or taking a bend.

I DO appreciate the advice and over the last while I was even contemplating the Mitsubish Parejo Sport and Hilux D3-D and 4.0 4x4. pound for pound the toyota wins with power etc but for price and value for money I rate the Hover higher.

If it doesn't work out i'll trade it or burn it ;) but I am positive.

Unless it's another high vehicle hitting you. Like all those Fortuners, bakkies and Hiaces out there...

I find it quite significant that it has never even been submitted to Euro NCAP for a test. Nor has any other GWM it seems, as there are none on their list. If they want to market them, they should be prepared to submit them for the test.

Let me try and put my opinion on the Hover, and the rest of the current Chinese crop of vehicles, as succinctly as I can: There's a fine line between value for money and cheap 'n nasty - all the Chinese cars are currently on the wrong side of that line.

I'm not saying they won't get better, but they are not good enough to warrant experimenting with at this juncture. I might be wrong but I also highly doubt that either BorgWarner or Mitsubishi, or any other reputable company, has any direct involvement with any hardware in a GWM. The Chinese have already fallen foul of Toyota - if I recall it was either GWM themselves or SOYAT that played on their Toyota-engineered engines not too long ago; this spawned a press release from Toyota stating in no uncertain terms that the engines in question are nothing but cheap-ass knockoffs of Toyota motors. The Chinese pulled a Toyota engine apart & copied it, bit by bit, using inferior materials. What came out was a shocking imitation of a Toyota engine and in no way linked to Toyota themselves.

Which leads me to wonder, can one even assume that it's a genuine BOSCH system looking after the ABS, or is that also a knockoff?

Don't get blinded by the bling, 'tis all I'm saying.

But not "controlled" by my money :)

You WILL be controlled by your money when you try sell it in a year and a half because it is driving you insane, and then you can't get squat for it unless you buy another GWM vehicle. I see this all the time with my foreman who take their vehicle allowance try save money buy some Chinese piece of crap and then come crying to me in a years time because they can't get to work because their vehicle is broken.

It's all genuine equipment as confirmed by a South African review too - and other overseas reviews. GWM buy the equipment, same as Merc buy Mitsubishi engines, bosch etc etc, So too does GWM.

Yes, it is your opinion but have you sat inside a Hover?? Explicitly a Hover? If you had you would not say ALL Chinese vehicles are cheap and nasty. The basis of your opinions are emotional and not backed by any factual evidence. Usually that comes from the love of another brand and as you well know, and display, South African's hate to be wrong - fact.

We hate to say "Sorry, i was wrong" and would prefer to play in the same park when everyone else has left. When i bought the Kia I thought i was going to kick myself - here i am buying another "import" without much history. It's a chance I am willing to take.

Pure speculation. If it comes to that i will get somethinig else while i fix this :) however, it is never that bad! Worst ever problem with Kia was the imobiliser decided NO one was starting the car and Kia sorted that. Yes, it wasn't GWM but I am willing to give it a bash. They won't progress if no one buys them.

He drove a Hover for over a week - read the long post he made about it in this thread and the other Hover thread.

Can't find them if it was Enigma? used the advanced search.

AHA! Beat me to it by milliseconds! :D

Thanks to Eskom, I haven't been able to partake in this debate since just after 12, but just to remind shearder of something else that he said this morning, concerning Subaru and high fuel consumption, which unfortunately got a WTF from me....I cannot wait for him to start publishing fuel consumption figures for the Hover that apparently walks on water...

Found the car http://media.carfind.co.za/dealer/stock/GWM Limo.jpg ;)

Just looking at carfind, I see that there are quite a few USED Hovers available with VERY low mileage - I wonder why....

Well if you had half a brain you TOO would do some homework! The Scooby is heavier and I am willing to do 11l/100 with the Hover :) Not sure if you all live in Chatsworth But you need to get out more and see the rest of the world. I was doing 6.6 kms to the ltr and it was a 2.5. I am happy to do 8 with an almost 2 ton vehicle. SO don't wait - do some homework yourself.

Do some homework! Find out why! Probably not enough power?? Something I can live with or i wouldn't sell the Audi!

And just looking at carfind i ALSO find toyotas with low mileage. I wonder why too? Seek and ye shall find. Doesn't take a grd2 education now does it Fazda?
Fact is We are SOuth African and we just look for fault. When we wake up and realise auto manufacturers are F2345ing us over idiots will realise they too need to take a leap and support the underdog and then MAYBE just MAYBE we will get more balance in the market. So when you are ready to take the blinkers of i shall entertain you further.
