Gym, exercise, etc.

go to bodybuilding.com, pick a training program and stick with it, try Kris Gethin, I'm doing this, its hard, but stick to weights that you can handle, form is better than weight:

Check your diet and try do the following:
Mix your proteins, Chicken, Tuna, Fish, etc
Eat loads of dark green veg
Drink Green tea
Eat at least 6 times per day, chicken breast and salad etc
Eat good clean carbs, brown rice and sweet potatoes etc
Take your measurements and track your progress, if you dont track you wont know if you doing anything at all

Rem, its takes time, if you going to get on the sale daily and or look in the mirror daily, your chances of quitting is good, results take time, so stay focused, dont make excuses and keep hitting the gym each day, give yourself a good solid 6 months of heart and soul and you will see the results

Best of luck

You definitely lift, bro.

I'd also suggest SL 5x5. I'm on a modified version now but starting my fiancee on the proper one. She's about 6 sessions in and picking up strength and toning.

I have indeed, for years now. That's part of the issue I think - If I am paying money for gym I hope I may be inclined to actually get off my arse.

I tried that, 5 months of gym subs and I only went there a handful of times. I am pretty active though, I run and played a lot of squash. I did the 15 week cardio and strength Freeletics program which put my mind in the right space. Now I am in the gym 3 times a week. If I didn't force myself into a routine, I wouldn't be able to stick to my gym schedule.

That's actually an idea - I enjoy squash.

you can join a gym with courts or join a proper squash club. The club has benefits of things like social leagues / evenings and more competitive leagues as well.

You end up playing 2 or 3 matches a night, which is a very decent full body workout

Have you checked out the Sports Science Institute in Newlands? It's really nice.

One big key to getting your general fitness levels up is practicing to bicycle everywhere rather than driving or using public transport. I've seen great results from commuting into work by bicycle now every day, which is like 15km/day roughly. Everyone else thinks I'm lunatic but I save a packet and get fit, so why wouldn't I? Then that takes care of my cardio, and I lift free weights for half an hour or so at a time through the weekdays. If you're using a high enough intensity, half an hour is enough to wipe you flat. I've also been looking at the 5x5, it seems like a very good routine and I'm a bit disorganised so I think it could help. But really it's more about finding a system that's going to work for you.

I detest jogging with an incendiary passion.

I do too. Sign up with Parkrun though. Once a week, 5km. Just commit to going every week, and doing as well as you can; it's less than an hour of your time. After a while, you'll want to do runs during the week. And then you'll want to sign up for proper competitive events, even just to do it.

That's basically what I did. I'm lazy and hate exercise, but my commitment to that once-a-week run (I've done 58!) has got me fitter and healthier.

Well, I contacted Virgin Active to get prices and that set off a flurry of mails and calls. Eventually they wore me down, and I signed up for a Momentum Multiply thing and at the end of the day my total cost will be R300 less than what they initially quoted.

This will be a new phase: Gymrat copa... I'd better start looking for a blond belter...

Sacrifice something small at the beginning ... (it can be something very small)

Then something larger .... and then progress ...

I go to Claremont maybe once a week, but there are belters-a-plenty. Contrary to the anorexic housewives of Constantia anyway.

Come boxing. I'd recommend The Armoury in Woodstock. You'd shed the weight damn fast.

I'm 1.79m and I went from 80 to 74 in 3 months and I didn't have much to lose in the first place.
