Hackers attack Anglo American websites

This thread is the reason I don't take part in internet forums :)

This thread?! Hell, didn't realise how powerful it was. Nor how fragile your sensibilities are. They're about as fragile as they are vague...

It's because I don't have time for childish comments and insults. What you just said is the perfect example :)

Again - posting to not say a thing, really. Still nobody knows what it is you're trying to say. Use your words...

I think I've made my point pretty clear, actually. Won't be entertaining you any longer. Cheers.

Oh no. Might as well shut down the forum if you're gonna go. Where will be get our vague rhetoric from now?

Glad to see you're still winning friends and influencing people.

Keep it up, and soon we'll only have Garson and killa to make fun of.

Constructive

Enough with all the squab-ling already

WHERE does one download the "incriminating" data ?

"Hacking" is easy -- building a presentable case based on legal research is something else ( and a LOT harder )

"The Diamond Invention"

ALL mega-corporations are criminals

Until "legion" "hack" these guys they are just playing in the kindergarten

SAUDI-ARAMCO-World

I directly own around 500 shares in Anglos.
How has revealing my personal details helped the cause?

And btw way your parents will own anglos shares via their pension.
I take it you don't own any because you must be around 14 years old.

You asking for trouble if you invest in a company with questionable environmental practices. For the last 30 years, multinationals have been targeted by people who (rightly so imo) try there best to protect the environment. If you choose to buy into these types of companies, then don't complain if this type of stuff happens.

Yes, I've read plenty of research about anglos thanks.

What have you read?

You can say whatever you want about mining companies, but a large part of the stability of our economy is based on the mining industry. In a way being a South African citizen means you're either an investor or a beneficiary.

This kind of thing is embarrassing to Anglo, but it certainly won't effect they way they operate, all it will make them do is ensure their data is far more secure.

Be careful out there

"Bushveld Igneous Complex"

I wonder ........

Do they know who discovered the "Bushveld Igneous Complex"

Do they know who discovered the Oyster beds at Alexander Bay ?

Do they know who purchased the mining rights for those diamond fields ?

Do they know what happened to the discoverer ?

Here is a clue

THE FICKLE FINGER OF FATE

Like I said -- ALL mega-corporations are criminals.
and
Putting together a coherent dénouement takes a bit more work !

They could start here by learning something of GEOLOGY

Centenary of the Discovery of Platinum in the Bushveld Complex

This is true, but at what cost.

You might as well then consider fracking acceptable since the end result contributes to our economic stability.

But anyways more on topic. Found this very interesting article.

In contravention of international business standards and the company’s own code of conduct, AngloGold Ashanti provided meaningful financial and logistical support – which in turn resulted in political benefits - to the FNI and its leaders, a group responsible for some of the worst atrocities in this war-torn region. In correspondence with Human Rights Watch, AngloGold Ashanti stated there was no “working or other relationship with the FNI” but it said that it had made certain payments in the past to the FNI, including one in January 2005 that was made under “protest and duress.” AngloGold Ashanti also said that any contacts with the FNI leadership were “unavoidable.”

Human Rights Watch researchers documented meetings between the company and the armed group leaders. The self-styled president of the FNI, Floribert Njabu, told Human Rights Watch, “The government is never going to come to Mongbwalu. I am the one who gave [AngloGold] Ashanti permission to come. I am the boss of Mongbwalu. If I want to chase them away, I will.”

AngloGold Ashanti started preparations for gold exploration activities in Mongbwalu in late 2003. The company won the mining rights to the vast gold concession in 1996 but, hampered by the ongoing war, postponed activities there until a peace agreement was signed and a transitional government was established in Kinshasa. The central government failed to establish control of Ituri, however, and the areas around Mongbwalu remained in the hands of the FNI armed group.

The above shows me that Anglo American, and any of it's subsidiaries, think of money first and consequences second.

For example: a guy owns a tow truck business, but wants to serve an area that's run by gangs and the only way to operate there safely would be to pay the gang off. Would one find this acceptable? I highly doubt it.

What the hackers did was shed light on an issue that most people would never had known about up until now but in the end the way they went about it was wrong and neither the hackers nor Anglo deserve any defending.

If we don't find this acceptable, then hacking likewise is also not acceptable. If you have proof of wrong doing take it to the authorities. There is an international court of justice in the Hague. There are governmental bodies in every country.

Hacking and releasing private information is never the right approach. You're just as bad as the guys you are fighting then. Heck you can't even be sure the guys you are hacking are "bad" but you're committing de facto evil right there yourself.
