I built my first hackintosh before Apple publicly announced the switch to x86 hardware. The OS was 10.4 on my old Acer Travelmate 4202 wlmi laptop. It booted and worked... ish. The things that didn't work? Almost everything. Internal display, core image, quartz extreme, sound, USB and some other little things. As time went by, one by one each item was hacked into submission.
These days things are a lot easier.
