Does anyone here have any experience in building a hackingtosh? i.e Mac using pc hardware?
 
I know someone who did that. It works pretty well. Then he installed Parallel's Desktop to be able to run Windows on it - don't ask. He has 3 other computers which are modern Windows PCs.
 
My advice-try to get the pc equivalent hardware, similar chipsets etc
Going with a Gigabyte Motherboard will give you the best results
 
Don't think updates work well though, Apple could release a fix that breaks the hackintosh exploit now and again

Nope not at all. There is a special version for the MSI Wind that you can get and it works great. Only problem is the stock wifi card and headphone jack don't work.

OSX for Pc's though is a different matter. I tried about 4 different versions and after about 3 weeks fiddling I still could not get any of them to run...

Go look at the hardware compatibility list. Intel based chipsets work best, try and get as close as possible to the Mac chisets. Gigabyte MB's seem to work well.

I have a Gigabyte G31 MB (& nVidia 9600GT) and OSX86 works fine on my PC.

That problem is coming to an end as far as I can tell. The latest method (dunno if it is out yet) allows you to install off an original unpatched DVD from apple. I read up on it the other day but forgot most of what I read.
 
Yea i got it installed using kalaway, worked just fine only problem was my 9800gx2 had no drivers that i could find.

Cant you use the normal 9800 drivers?

Drivers are part of the options In the Kaliway install as far as I remember but it was a while back.
 
I want to try it out, but is it easy to get it to dual boot with windows? and is the installation as easy as boot, click, click and voila? lol

It really depends on a few things, motherboard compatibility at best. Best way to get to dual boot with Windows is to have Windows on a seperate HDD (probably a old small one cos you gonna trash it once you start running OSX - hehe), Anyway.... Yes the installation is very simple. My installation takes 15mins using kalyway 10.5.2 then I do a update to 10.5.7 (add another 10mins).

Ya exactly. I've got XxX 10.5.6 Final which is a very nice distro, works well too.
 
I am still waiting for the kalyway 10.5.2 disk to download from bittorrent then I will begin try out the installing, will be giving you feedback tomorrow.
