I have just got a Dell Mini 10v that I want to Hackintosh, but all the guides that I have read say that I need an existing Mac machine to create the bootable USB from the snow leopard disc (which I will be buying).

However, I don't know anybody with a Mac, and was wondering if there is someone in PTA or JHB with a mac that could help me out with creating the bootable USB? Or other ideas?

Thanks

There are 2 boot loaders that can be used from windows. (You won't need a mac)

Option 1.
Boot132 is a .iso image file which can be burnt to cd in windows in Nero (burn disc from image file). You boot up from this disc to the Darwin screen, remove the disc and insert the OSX disc. Install OSX and then install Chameleon to the hard drive so you don't have to use the cd to boot.

Option 2.
BootThink. It's easier. There is a download link on the insanelymac & infinitemac forums for both the mac and PC version. Download both. Read how to use it properly. There is a pdf with instructions included (it is a google translation from Chinese, ie. bad English but usable) . It allows you to create a usb boot loader from windows. Make sure you read the instructions on how to activate dvd / cd installation disk detection. Once OSX is installed, you install the mac version to your hdd to allow it to boot without using the usb drive.

24 hours of use later...

Wow, absolutely loving the little Mac OS netbook. With 2GB RAM, and an SSD it flies like a flying thing.
Great vid playback - 6 hour usage from battery. Only downside is that my next laptop will probably have to be a Mac $$$.

Thanks again for the help, subxero - put me on the right path.

Tell me more. Where did you get the 10V? I have heard one must use the 10V not just the 10. Also, was it as seamless as the 9 is reported to be? I am interested in doing this myself one day...

Does it have to be genuine?

Where can I find out if my laptop will work as a Hacknitosh?

What are the specs of your laptop? Easiest / quickest way for me to install Snow Leopard is the MyHack installer - Google it.
