Halaal restaurants

the ones they give away - made with a good open heart, makes it taste better

I agree, you'll mainly find them at Jamaat Khana's and a couple mosques as well after Salaat. I know of a few places in the South of Joburg (iirc) that still give Haleem certain days.

At the Helderkruin Masjid, where i go if I'm home for Jumah Salaat, the 2 Fridays before Ramadaan, were selling Briyani, Daiy, Salaad and cool drink for R50... Wish i was home those Fridays for that. Have not had briyani in so long.

Lol i forgot about that - The Muazzin was telling me about it the weekend before they raising funds - it's a good idea they have a decent crowd there and i think they just bought the property behind them so trying to extend the mosque / madressah. If it did well they will probably do it every week.

Where do you work a few mosques have started doing this, I know at Colaraign Masjid they sell Biryani every week (not now though Ramadan :) ).

Can see its Ramadan only got food on my mind. :D

So true hey! And its crazy, you crave the craziest things in this month.

I work in Jhb CBD, used to attend Kerk Street mosque up until a few Friday's before Ramadaan, we started going to Houghton Masjid, and looks like that will be our regular Masjid if at work. I really wish i could be closer to home, so that i could go to my Mosque at home (in Helderkruin) every Friday, it just feels so peaceful at that Mosque, so much so, that i took my little girl (3 Years old) with me last Jumah, it was so peaceful that she just sat still the entire time, up until the lecture started, then she fell asleep though.

I really wish i could go to that Mosque every Jumah.

That's awesome news about the extension, and the Madressah. The Muslim community is growing at a rapid pace in the West rand - Helderkruin and surrounding areas, which is Maa shaa' Allaah!

Yep Muslim population in the west rand is growing rapidly - i'm on the other side of the mountain :) Weltevreden park, our Masjid - They also just raised enough to buy the house next door
Oh the Haleem they distributing at 1 Plein Street in Roodeport from around 1530- not sure if it every day, just saw someone posts on facebook.

Isn't Hougton a bit out of the way from the CBD? - you guys can pretty much have your pick of Masjids? JNB central, Newtown, fordsburg, mayfair etc.

Not really out of the way, we get back the same time from Houghton mosque, as we would if we had walked to kerk street mosque, this way just has less exercise involved i guess as we drive instead. The reason is, we tend to have some issues at the Kerk street mosque some times, at times we wont get water to make wudhu, or the speakers dont work on certain floors etc. So we decided to all just rotate cars and start going to Houghton, we actually suggested the other day to maybe start going to different mosques in the surrounding area. Used to go to Sultan BaHu in Mayfair frequently, enjoyed that Masjid, only thing with that is, some of the guys are a bit time conscious, and need to get back to work, and at Sultan Bahu the Jumat Salaat is slightly longer.

Never been to that Mosque, honestly did not even know there is a Mosque in that area.

This is the place where the Eid Gah Salaat is every year right? Still have not seen this place yet? Not sure where it is?

- cant believe Kerk street still has those issues, when i was i younger used to be in town and go there, they had the similar problems back then.

Weltevreden park has a Small masjid they only started with jumah a year or 2 back - its down Jim Fouche corner of Rinyaani ave .

Im not familiar with Roodeport too, think its close to the masjid

Yip, still the same issues, and now in Ramadan, it gets extremely full, so we expect even more of those issues.

Thats good to know, at least i have another mosque to go to, if i find myself in an unfamiliar area. Yeah, Helderkruin mosque is not that far off, they also only started reading Jumah salaat some 3 years back, i used to travel from my house (Wilropark) to Bosmont for Jumah Salaat before Helderkruin mosque, then i found the Jamaat Khana in Florida, but i used to drive every Friday (when i was home) passed the Helderkruin mosque hoping that the gates would be open, and that they would be reading Jumah Salaat, until the 1 Friday they did, and been going ever since.

Also not so familiar with Roodepoort really, and frankly not that keen on familiarizing myself with it, the area's not what it used to be.

Abdullah Manjra selling haleem and akhni and biryani and khalya on Sundays outside the Turkish mosque in midrand... his chows are tops but if you late you wont get any food coz he's sold out!!!

Bingo. Sundays you say. Would just before Zohr be a good time?

Sadly seem they may be closed. If so its sad that muslims in area dont support halaal places.

Personally I feel like Halaal places take advantage of the fact that Muslims will eat there and therefore don't have the same level of standards like unhalaal restaurants. Atleast in CPT, that's how it is for me.

So basically, that leaves me with very few restaurants to choose from.

Good Haleem in CPT in from a place called Cape To India
