Allright, with the holiday season approaching and much gaming needed :D i have an interesting question(well interesting to me) for which I have been unable to find an answer

Does anyone know if you can use hamachi and route sentry at the same time? And, will it actually route the traffic correctly so as to save on bandwidth costs?

And, on a side note, is it possible to use a VPN to game? I have read that the VPN wont carry certain UDP packet broadcasts or something and you therefore wont see the game.

lol, thanks for the flood of responses :D to add, route sentry and hamachi do not work together, actually, they hate each other, if you are running route sentry and trying to use hamatchi it will work but your ping will be in the region of 700ms, turn off route sentry and your pings drop to the region of 50ms.

but

the problem is that you have to use you international b/w to use hamachi which is a bit wasteful considering the people I am playing with are all based here in SA.

so if anyone has any suggestions as to how to set up a vpn to game over it would be most welcome. i have found a solution that says you can open up the ports used by the UDP packets and I am going to give it a bash, my determination to game using local b/w will keep me going :)

Hi hoegh

I've noticed the same problem with running route sentry and hamachi, my connection just becomes useless and my ping to about 700ms too. I'm not sure if there's any way to resolve this.

I'm looking into the UDP packets, using port forwarding, since the machine I connect to is also based here in SA.....but I'm a complete noob, and don't really know where to begin... let me know if you got something working for you with the UDP packets....

thanks in advance
