I really hope that the one that I bought is from the same batch TRAK3400D3? The Samsung drives appear to be much more reliable than Seagates at the moment.

I wanted a western digital 1tb ext hdd a few months ago, was outta stock.
It's a nice drive.

The suppliers seem to be battling to get local stock at the moment - they reckon there's a shortage overseas.

I tried getting 2x WD 1TB drives to replace my 2x 500GB's, and none of the suppliers have any stock - tried Seagate and Samsung too - got my hands on some Sammies, but they were returned 4 times, so I guess I'll wait till the new year and hope stock arrives.

I'll have to limit my downloads until the new storage space arrives...

If you look at the reviews at Newegg for the drives most commonly used in external cases, Western Digital appears to be the most reliable followed closely by Samsung, then Hitachi with Seagate a long way behind ...

Toshiba generally use Western Digital in their external drives which are really well constructed. I bought this 320GB from dionswired.co.za a few weeks ago and it seems very sturdy and reliable. They may also stock the 1TB. The case is made from brushed aluminium.

The Verbatim drives that are sold at Makro in the UK also appear to use the Western Digital drives so it might be worth checking if this is also the case over here ...

Do you know what drive is installed in the Transcend case? I think that the Transcend enclosure might be superior to the WD one.

@Cantera: Did you also receive Samsung HD103si drives? What are the SNs - also TRAK3400XX?
