I still got the original Zip-100 parallel port drive, can't get anybody interested in it at all, it being old technology...
can it be used in flashing firmware, like stiffie drives?

No Jaz drives, they were slightly bigger than Zip disks, I had a client who lost a lot of data on one of them once.

@Cantera: I bought one of these on impulse as a Christmas present for somebody a week or so ago. I am now starting to have second thoughts after reading some of the reviews on amazon.com. Roughly 1/4 of the reviews report a catastrophic drive failure after several weeks. The model number of the drive featured on Amazon though is 34275 which might contain a different hard drive from the model 34305 which is available from IC.

I contacted Iomega to try to find out what type of hard drive is used in this drive and they weren't willing to divulge this information. It appears that Seagate 7200.11 drives were installed in many of these drives and there appear to be serious reliability problems with those units.
Here is my correspondence with Iomega ...

I am interested in purchasing a 1TB Iomega Prestige Desktop Hard Drive and would be very grateful if you could let me know what type of hard drive is installed in this particular model as I would prefer to avoid buying a Seagate 7200.11 drive if possible. The following information is printed on the barcode on the underside of the sealed box:

The barcodes above would seem to suggest that the drive was manufactured on 27/4/2009 and the serial number contains the digits 340 which might indicate that a Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 ST31000340AS is present.
The Verbatim drive also mentioned in this thread would appear to use a Western Digital drive which might be a better overall choice.
If you do go ahead and purchase the drive and are able to easily identify the internal drive please report back in case anybody else is interested in this particular model.

I have a Verbatim external drive, it contains a Samsung drive.
So have we confirmed this is going on special tomorrow and that if I walk into IC Tygervalley tomorrow around lunch time I should be able to get myself one?

A friend at work bought one of these drives 2 weeks ago for R799 from the Incredible Connection in the Cape Town CBD. Probably all branches will have a few for sale but they'll go real fast.

Got one of these today. Its a samsung hd103si inside.
Can you post the barcodes and SN underneath the box for comparison purposes?
