Hi peepz!

I have this 320GB HDD that has semi died I think.
It was in an external casing and starting giving me this blue screen error: bugcode_usb_driver

Anyways, I took it outta the casing and now it gives page fault page blah blah blah blue screen error.

I need to get the data off this drive, but if I put it and turn the PC on, the PC gets to a point and Blue Screens.

Any ideas?

use knoppix?

can you run chkdsk on the drive before copying off data? (probably will lose some data on bad sectors tho)

wait for other ideas before running off. Take it easy, don't rush things.

If there is nothing "private" on the HD then take it to a data recovery place..... will cost a few Rands but hay next time dont load porn on the HD :D

Have to agree - it's weird.

All I can think of is that a defect developed on the removable drive's MBR or in some other critical area, when Windows try to access it, it doesn't know how to handle the error, and bluescreens.

Can also be a rootkit/virus/trojan tho...

If you don't connect the device, the other pc works fine? Have you tried "Last known good configuration"?

If I disconnect the drive, yes, the PC works fine, boots up.

I haven't tried "last known good configuration" :(
I'll try this, but something tells me, this won't work either :(
