I would like to know what software can I use to measure my hard drive temperature? Will there be a difference between internal and external hdd measurements?

What should the average temp. be?

Fanspeed....about 35-38 is ok I think. Internal and external? Erm...rate the temps you'll get will be internal, no point in measuring external I rate.

+1 for speedfan. You can also use an app called hwmonitor

A google study showed that hard disks have a lower failure rate when the temperature is kept between 36 and 46 degrees centigrade. Any higher or lower results in a higher failure rate. Lowering your HDD temp to below 20 is more harmful than increase the temperature above 50....

External hard drives will generally run warmer if the case it's housed in has no fan. Just keep this in mind.

I use Everest. Used to use speedfan.
