Hardcapped finally?

I got 225GB on my acc, and was finally hardcapped this morning.
local+intl
up+down

bastards!

I see your point there Abe. I suppose this debate will rage on until the end of time until Telkom themselves change.

Um, sunsoffun, 130gb is easy peasy.

FTPing stock images/high res photography to and from clients overseas will make you get that much data through quick.
+
Streaming music all day at 128-192 kb/sec
+
Playing BF2 (Bandwidth HOG)
+
RSS Feeds
+
Occasional torrent (why wait for those tv shows!)
+
Streaming Video

Buying stuff from the apple shop (99c tracks and tv baby!)
+
A whole lot of other stuff.

IT IS A LIE THAT 3gig IS ENOUGH!

Not even 100gig is enough.

Pacafistos the lotta ya. Just because Telkom says we're naughty does not mean we should just say "Ok, sorry, here's my bum again, and the Ky Jelly." What makes you think staying within your 3Gb is going to change Telkom's attitude?

are you still yapping on about this :D

hahahaha!!! yeah!!!
awesome, you're all pushing excellent GB figures.

except now you've gone and given telkom a reason to call you abusers.
yes so they're not hardcapping that doesn't mean you should continue abusing the service.
use it within reason
10GB instead of 100GB.

bragging about how much you've downloaded/transferred only serves to show that telkom is right about you abusers.
i dislike them as much as the next guy on here - but every side has two stories, and you're just giving the bad guys ammo.

I reckon the people who happily stay inside 3gb are the real problem, because that is the justification that Telkom uses.

Up with the heroes!

Remember, according to Telkom (you can find it on their site somewhere), EVERYTHING constitutes as abuse......Chatting too long on MSN......Playing online games...that is abuse in Telkom's eyes (they even tell you how to cut down on it). WTF is wrong with them ? Everyone is an abuser to them wether you use 10TB or 100kb.

My original post:
Well, after doing about 130Gb on my TelkomISP account, it appears that I've been hardcapped (I think). My account fails to connct every time with a bad username/password error. Is this how hardcapping is enforced? Will edit this post if I find another explanation.

Now you may call this bragging but i call it A QUESTION AS TO HOW HARDCAPPING IS ENFORCED you moron.

I have to agree with you on this one. The fact that everyone is careful to NOT exceed their 3gig, just gives Telkom the ammo needed to state that 3gig is enough. If everyone constantly used up their 3gig and get hard-capped, then Telkom would not be able to say that 1.4gig is MORE than enough.
So, I think that the people NOT using their FULL 3gig's are the real problem.

Since I'm always in the middle of this fight I might as well get in it again (And those who have said its the same BS ever week.. Signed!).

What telkom says is abuse is the fact that you pay for 3 gigs, and you use 100 gigs.. Please read that again before you try and flame and make yourself look like an idiot because I will point out just how stupid you are!

To say that again.. paying for 3 gigs and using 100 gigs is what telkom calls abuse. You signed the contract, you knew the conditions before you got it, doing otherwise, will always be seen as abuse by ANY company.. not just telkom. Its the sad truth in any business enviroment.

Is 3 gigs to little, for some people.. YES
Is 100 gigs to much for some people YES
Is the Price per gig to much.. YES
Are those who "need" 1 gig paying the same as those who "need" 100 gigs.. YES
Is anyones hard earned money worth more than anyone elses.. NO
Is latency more important for some people than amount... YES
Is broadband only about "how much you can download?" .. NO

The problem is the price. It is to expensive, that is the bottom line.

By turning around, and "raping" somebody else, just because they "raped" you, Makes you just as bad ... if not worse than they are.. Think about it

ROFLMAO. Easy tiger

Anway I dont know about your problem but this posts seems to have been diverted from that somehow. There are two arguments getting to the "same goal" but in different manners. One side is, take them for everything they got (Telkom) and the other is a more conservative way.

My only fear is that of DotCo's court case that is coming up in couple days... I would not like to see this jeperdised in anyway.

I agree with you, K. What I download/upload and what I do with it is my business - what i wanted to know is how the hardcapping is actually happening, as there are varied reports from users. Some get cut off, some can connect but not browse. My intention was not to brag, if it was I would have quoted last month's totals... :D

Now, once again - for those paying attention - Has anyone else been hardcapped and how has it been done. Please don't say how much you up/downloaded because you will be fracked.

PS @ Kalvaer - quit smoking yet?

Riggs, 'What I download/upload and what I do with it is my business '. Of course it is BUT Telkom have the right to monitor what you're downloading, browsing etc if it's on their bandwidth.

Afterthought : by going into partnership with a web hosting company or two, Telkom can also encourage people to get into uploading and maintaining their own websites / blogs etc. This will create opportunities for smaller businesses to get online exposure, more schools having their own websites, and basically increasing local content , to use with your local bandwidth.

They already have this.
Check out : http://www.telkom.co.za/attheoffice/products/hosting/index.html

Also they have Cybertrade for online shopping and "secure" email (just because you cant pull email from an outside connection and only now enabling their users for ADSL.

Oh well, one more day then the hardcap is reset. Let's hope we can have another 100+ gig month.

/me waits to be flamed by the bandwidth-conservatives...

I wanna see if any of you people get hard capped First :)

Riggs, mine said the exact same thing when i tried to Logon on the 28th, so i phoned Telkom ISP and they said it was due to being hardcapped on a 2gig account.

So this month we will have to see.

Ok ppl I have downloaded 26GB now and I'm still not capped so I guess they are not hardcapping this month?

They'll cap you when they feel like it. They're probably even doing it manually now, watching their userbase and devising cunning plans. Doing background checks on everyone who goes over 100GB. Sending names to the scorpions. Buying movie tickets with your credit card. Whatever.

Can't wait till they just drop this crap and introduce a fixed cap at a sane level, 30 or 50GB or something. Screw the "broadband should not be capped" crap, unless you think our network and peering REALLY IS good enough to support 500GB / month per user.

We're all paying the same price, let's all get the same thing, k?

While I'm at it, screw everyone who downloads copyrighted material they don't own the rights to. That includes me. We're just hurting our own cause. It's disgusting.
