Why would you want this? Where or what would you be accessing?

let me explain again.

normally when you open my computer, your hard drives would be listed say c: d: and e:, but now for some unexplained reason they don't show there just the cd rom.

what i was asking if any one have encountered this issue before ?

the odd thing is that i can access them in this manner (which means they are detected by windows), start -> run -> explorer -> enter; from there type c:\ in the address bar and press enter again.

If I am correct it might a virus called the fatoos C or some new version of it. If it is Fatoos then your task manager is probably also disabled. I had some problem with this and with varied results been able to fix it. Usually with some kind of registry fixing software like regsweep / regcure etc. Some machines though refuse to have the problem fixed like this! Try this registry fix

I hope this helps...

Just for interests sake, you can also use Tweak Ui to hide/unhide drives in My computer and explorer.
