I am not alone either - read the xiaomi thread to see how many people prefer xiaomi.

They have just released their flagship Mi 10 which is a beast with for instance a 108MP camera. Not even samsung / apple comes close on some of the specs and you can get it at a fraction of the price of similar specced samsungs

I have had samsung / huawei and xiaomi and still prefer xiaomi due to it bang for your buck.
Sales wise Samsung / apple is 1 and 2, huawei being 3rd biggest by sales and then xiaomi.

I'ma Huawei fan, have been for a few yrs, before that HTC.
Never done mainstream( Samsung + Apple), overpriced and often overrated.

Might give Xiaomi a bash tho...,maybe a mid range, dual sim if they have a model that betters my P10.
 
Newer Xiaomi phones do have bloatware/adware yes but they are all easy to remove and get rid of. The reason for the ads so they say is to subsidize the cheap price of the phone. I jumped ship from Apple to Xiaomi and loving the experience so far. Both on the android software front as well as the phone itself.

Just love it. I am in IT and have always thought apple is the most overpriced devices. I love to tinker with android and the freedom it gives you - still running a Samsung S3 with 3rd party rom / firmware on android 7 / 9 lol.
I can understand why apple is so successful though it is because the masses that buys it want something that "works" smoothly and not much that can go wrong due to the closed nature of the platform. Also all apple devices interacts seamlessly for those that don't want to tinker.

Last time I was on android I had a galaxy s3 mini. thats when I used to tinker with nova launcher and loads of other apps. Then after a short stint with blackberry I went apple. Never had issues. It just worked. Had an iPhone SE but due to how well the software worked with hardware even playing PUBG mobile was fast and smooth. Recommended that my sis get a redmi 8 due to price and excellent battery life and when she did I got convinced to join the xiaomi train. No regrets. Phone is feature packed. Enjoying the android experience and messing around with themes, icon packs, gestures, different look and feel. Apps for anything under the sun and customization galore.

Actually bought my first iphone (SE 32GB) end last year and not for reasons of using it myself. Needed to get an apple device to jailbreak it and tinker with sniffing and other security related things as I want to move into the security (pentesting) field. Got it at a bargain (R1000 landed) from ebay uk. Spotless in its original box with charger and everything. Only downside it being locked to vodafone UK but as I only gonna use the wifi to do testing it is perfectly fine. Can even unlock it should it be necessary in future.

Yeah not bad. Just did a 'test' checkout and onedayonly comes to R1034 with shipping whereas geewiz is R1054 but has no stock so its on backorder (2-3 days dispatch delay which is not bad either). See onedayonly also only has 4 left as of this post.

edit: seems ODO has added stock again

Cellc.co.za have these deals. Not the greatest bargains but atleast they are somewhat discounted. In December they the Honour 10 lite for R1999. Now that was a killer deal. Online only
