My daughters been using an older Dell i5 with 8gb ram and it’s been working quite well. I’ve yet to install the SSD I purchased months ago which should make it even better.
She’s been using zoom, internet, email, various apps for school courses as well as python coding.

It's gonna make a huge difference. I just upgraded an office laptop. Just the boot time went from about 3+ minutes to 15 seconds. And using it is a world of difference.

I was given a choice between RAM or SSD to upgrade. I chose SSD

SSD all the way.

I would rather use a 10 year old laptop with an SSD, than a 2021-model laptop with a HDD.

Yeah a big ssd fan myself. She isn’t bothered by performance so it hasn’t been priority. I do think it’s time I get it done... before this Ssd grows legs and disappears haha

looking for slim/small powerbank that preferably:
  • can quick charge up
  • has like a 15W port and a 5W port
  • 5000mAh is fine since I think those will be smallest
TIA

Advise needed: Need a budget laptop with >6hrs work time. This is for school so no gaming required. Want Windows 10 standard so Surface/MAC/Chromebook is out. Tons of info on the internet but difficult to find what is available locally. I guess 8GB RAM min and ability to change Hard Drive for SSD if not already provided. 2nd Hand is ok also.
R6499

Nice for the price, but just noticed you need good battery life and I don't think this is it unfortunately.
Great bang for buck otherwise.

I am looking for a 27-32in 4k monitor to use with a MacBook with USB-C Thunderbolt 3.

I spend most of my day behind the screen...

I know the LG Ultrafine rage is supposedly the way to go, but it is just too pricey for me.

Would a 4k 32” TV be an option?

4K 32" TVs is not a common thing and the samsung ones I saw cost more than most 27-28" 4K monitors.

I bought one of these in October last year for R5k but they seem to be out of stock most places. Maybe you can search around a bit although it only has HDMI and Displayport. Might be an option to use a cable like this to convert to usb c

Bought two of these for a dual monitor setup. They are very good value if you do not need the extra features. Still on sale at Makro: https://www.makro.co.za/electronics...d-4k-hdr-led-monitor-/p/000000000000380682_EA

LG monitors are commonly recommended for Macbooks, so this may be a good match with an appropriate cable (if height adjustment and USB pass-through are not required).

I’m also interested in this monitor, how is the image quality? Do you run into any issues with scaling in Windows ?

How does your SSD compare to your NVME. I have two PC's at home, with the same motherboards and CPU's and one a SSD and the other NVME, but I only see a 3 second difference in my startup time between them.

That does not seem like a lot, seeing that SSD reads at 550MB/s and the NVME at 3500MB/s...

I think most motherboards don't have the capacity to make the most of an NVME drive, hence only the slight increase in speed.
