Just pay the difference and get the Air 2. Sound is good, bhe difference in comfort is beyond words...

It might be the normal price but it's quite reasonable considering how much it would cost to import the same item. The price in China seems to have dropped quite a bit since Christmas. It's a pity that the Xiaomi phones are still considerably more expensive to purchase locally than to import.

Do you generally prefer an external type earphone to an in-ear or is there some problem with the fit of the Basic 2's?

I haven't tried either of those two earphones but I generally prefer the sound and fit of an in-ear earphone over that of an external type. I recently started using my Edifier H180 copy and I find that I need to remove the earpieces after a few hours as my ears start to ache where the hard plastic shell touches the cartilage while I can comfortably use my in-ear earphones for hours at a time. The H180s do sound quite good even though they do not fit inside the ear canal.

Sounds like something for the reasonably priced thread then...

The basics are okay fit wise, though the fatigue does start to set in for me after a few hours..

The Air 2 does not have any sharp edges. Everything that touches the ear is rounded. It is the most comfortable fit I have tried. To me, it's much more comfortable than any in-ear buds that I've tried. Sound may not be Bose standard, but it's plenty good enough.

I imported these via aramex last year, amazing quality and price was a no brainer even with import

Because that “rule” is impractical and unrealistic.

I’ve brought in maybe 30 items this year via forwarding or amazon, all on my ID, and not one issue.

Can you share a table with local pricing, foreign pricing, the import pricing and how long it took for you to receive those items.

The short answer is no. I tried importing a cellphone approximately a month ago and they said that it's on the unacceptable list. I had to make a plan to get the phone to SA. Not worth the hassle in my opinion
 
Thanks for the information. I have a friend that I work with who is in IN sorting out his visa issues. I will just ask him to buy a cellphone for me and he will get the money when he gets to Mzansi.

Also remember a lot of phones in India require you to make a call with an Indian SIM card first for like 10 minutes or so to unlock the region block and allow it to be used in other countries. Keep that in mind when asking your friend to bring it to SA for you.
