What is a good price for a 3.5 inch 4TB HDD?

Hard to get real bargains these days partly due to the effect and initial after effect of chia mining.

Not a bad price, all things considered.

Are there any good Pc system builder websites in SA, with local pricing?

Yeah also the delivery is included. I stay close to their Florida Glen office so always collect. Some people complain about them but I have luckily never had major issues except for a delay here and there.

Would it be usable for poe camera recordings?

Edit or rather would it be recommended?

The reason I'm asking is.

Takealot has the 4TB Purple for R1549 and they had the 4TB Blue yesterday for R1499.

I have 2 x R100 off vouchers so settled for getting the purple for R1449. Not a bad price. Now I know it's a surveillance drive but I saw quite a bunch of reviews showing that they are pretty good for other stuff too. I just need 3 x 4TB in RAID0 and then I will be happy so I got the purple. Performance is very decent. 3 year warranty also.

I see facebook market place is flooded with Purple drives for very good price. Might see if I can get another 1 on marketplace.

Not vaccinated myself but maybe some of you can use this to get some hardware bargains?
Isn't Pensioner day also on Wednesday? If so I wonder if it's possible to stack discounts.

Probably not at my local Game. They weren't willing to apply a Pensioner discount after my father requested a price match. Strictly one or the other.

Ah yes, for special drives anything below R400/TB would be quite a good price. Normal drives I'd try to go <R350/TB.

For 24/7 recording you shouldn’t go for a desktop HDD. Seagate Ironwolf or WD Purple/Red would be a better bet, albeit more expensive
Just an update on the above. There was a biiiiig hoohaa last year about WD being sneaky with their RED drives and slipping SMR tech into those without telling anyone, esp the 4TB versions. So if your plan is to use in ZFS filesystems, avoid the WD RED drives (although they market them as NAS drives when they shouldn't). SMR and ZFS don't mix well. The PURPLE drives are CMR so you are fine there. They cheaper than the RED anyway. For use with other file systems there's no issue

They label the non smr Red now as red pro. So safe to use red pro for zfs.
