Seagate Expansion 14TB External Hard Drive HDD - USB 3.0, with Rescue Data Recovery Services (STKP14000402) - R5470 landed from Amazon

Works out to less than R400 / TB and I did some research on reddit, apparently these comes with Seagate Exos X16 or Ironwolf NAS drives. Can also easily be shucked in case you want to use the drive as an internal:

Anyone interested in the hub model with 2 usbs, it is on special on amazon.de for R400 more (landed). Apparently also shuckable with the same drives as the expansion model.

Yes did some research on reddit about WD elements units that they shuck but apparently the drives inside is supposed to be some kind of white label wd red drive but is crippled in some way to run at 5400rpm. The WD elements 14tb is only $2 cheaper on amazon but in the end I went with 2 x Seagate Expansion 14tb, will have to see what I get but chances are they are exos X16 which goes for upwards of R8k each

The 14TB Exos drives are significantly more expensive now from when I got mine.

Luckily I have some breathing room before I need to get more drives. I don't like the idea of ordering from Amazon and then shucking those. Just a pain if one of them goes bad.

Hopefully we'll get some good specials again at some point on these drives.

Yes you got yours before the chia mining craze reaching a high in May. Some people on reddit report that they shucked the casings very carefully and put it together before returning it. Others report registering the bare drive's serial on seagate's website for warranty in case they needed to return it as a bare drive.

The model you bought is the sas model which is actually cheaper then the SATA version that comes in the externals:

So put this discount to the test at N1 City Game. So first, since it falls on Pensioner/Students day, it's technically the same discount with a larger maximum of R10,000 instead of R3,000.

That said, you can only apply one or the other at this Game branch, not both, same applies for their Price Match discount. They also don't tell you beforehand that it's subject to the same restrictions as the other discounts. i.e, no discounts on most food items, Liquor or cellphones.

I know it's Raru, but they honoured a Synology NVR that I bought for R1888, marked down from around R5k a while back...so kudos to them for that I guess?

I've had pretty good experiences with RARU in the years I've dealt with them. I think it's time for me to start taking some chances again with them again.

Bought an "In Stock" SSD with them on Sunday, and it was delivered on Tuesday.

But that SSD looks to be around 1/10th of the normal retail price.
What interface factor is it, says NVE but looks like Sata and not M2?

That drive says "Dispatched in 2 to 5 working days".... you know for sure that you are not getting it at that price!

No doubt. There's about a 0.01% chance. It's more or less a R7k drive from what I can see. At any rate, if you exercise some common sense and not buy ridiculously underpriced items, I think you're fairly safe.

I think it's probably closer to 10k drive, I think it's missing a 0.
 
Not sure how you connect that to your machine though?
