Hifi corp is good at having false or incorrect information online. Some of their tabs listed with 1 gb ram only have 512kb.
I feel like I would be slightly upset if my laptop only came with 512kb RAM

That's cheap, anyone read the reviews or had one before?

Loot always seems to get the base models with 1 USB and 2 HDMI's. If it's like my 40" Hisense LED then it's a good TV for HD but not so good for SD viewing.

Anybody know where I can find a cheap-ish phone for a teenager? The only real requirement is that it should be able to "whatsapp and facebook" (as my niece put it). Its her 15th birthday and her parents aren't really in a position to buy her a phone so she asked me.

Xiaomi?

Yes, significantly so. Think of it this way, when buying from GB you're buying from someone who buys it directly from the manufacturer. Buying it here locally would mean the item goes through a long supply chain and each entity in that chain adds their markup.

Xiaomi has an official South African store, here. :)

(I believe that's "official"....)

I'm not opposed to it, in fact I've got a Xiaomi Note 5 and so does the wife :)

Thing is I can bring one in via GB, but that's going to take some time.
How much you want to spend? The Redmi 4X and Note 4 are going cheap at Takealot and Hi-fi Corp. You can also look at the Huawei Y3, Y6 and Y7.
